Vintage Illinois Plates

I Don't Care. Do you?

I thought we had at least one Illinois LEO here (Sgt Junior?). I'm trying to find out if there is a legal way to run with only vintage plates on my car here in Illinois, like those lucky guys in CA can do. I found a set with a good number and would like to use them one day.

Anybody know for sure?

So if I understand this correctly, I can have actual 1965 plates on my car provided I have the current AV plates and registration in the vehicle (not visible) at all times. So as a LEO, if you were cruising behind me and saw an old plate (not registered and no current sticker) if you pulled me over and I showed the "real" plates and current, valid registration I would be good to go. No tickets?

That's correct. But I, myself would print out a copy of the law and attach it to my registration (or have it in the package) ready to show to whomever stopped you.

just in case :roll

Here in SC after going through the approval and registration process for Year Of Manufacture (YOM) tags, you receive a "normal" registration card and the annual tag sticker. You're not required to put the sticker on the tag, but you must have it and the reg. card in the car. DMV also conveniently sends along a copy of the law, just in case you do run into an LEO not familiar with YOM tag statutes! They actually did something right!!

thats how it works here in tn. i would still take the advice to print out the copy of the law & keep it handy for any "rookies" on the beat.
