Vintage Racing Next Year

A slow/rainy/cold day so I might as well post something.

Got the racing fever after running a few chump car races so I decided to pick up a cheap vintage race car in Florida a couple of weeks ago.

I told myself I would never own another car older than 2006 but I have the option of changing my mind.

This is a 1960 Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite that has documented racing history back to 1972. The first year SCCA issued log books.

Was last raced in 2006 so she has a few minor things to work out before hitting the track.

Good thing is the car is small and has very few things to work on.

Once the car is ready I have to work on getting my vintage racing license before I can run a few races in the midwest next year.

Later.

Sorry. Just have not taken the time to post. Photo was from my iPad.

The car is definately better in pictures than in person but it is a race car after all.

The cool thing is going through the old log books and pictures. Too much to post. You need to stop by the next time you get near KC.

My Uncle has a '59 I believe, he's had since new, it was his first car for college. I learned to drive stick in it at ~15. He did some timed road rallye's in it. When you get it outside please post some side/ front/ rear pics, he'd love to see em'.

Glad to see the PJ in the background still.

And your garage is staring too look packed like mine...

Can't give it up that easy. It is nice to get in to a car with a lot of power now and then. We will have to see how this old man's racing goes before the PJ goes.

Still have plenty of room in the garage. Could probably fit a few more things in there yet. I can even jack up the Sprite with my big floor jack from both sides without moving a thing.

Jon, I will get more pictures when I have a chance. I should have got hold of you when the trailer crapped out all of the bearings on the driver's side outside of Clarksville on a Sunday. Had to stay the night in Clarksville and run over to Russellville, Kentucky to pick up parts.

P.S. I need to be paying more attention to where everyone on the forum lives. I just found that Tarafied1 lives in Russellville, KY.

I sure could have used some help the Sunday I broke down around Oak Grove.

At least I can say that I helped the economy out in his town.

yeah, i'm between craig & jon & have access to any trailer parts you would have needed. guess we all need to check the map before a road trip!

Yep, between Steve, Craig and I, we've got the Mid TN/KY corridore locked down! Maybe check the map and collect some cell phone #'s after posting your route next time (hindsight is 20/20 isn't it?). I'm sure between trailers and trailer parts we could have gotten you on the road or at least put you up for the night!

It was my fourth day on the road and I was not thinking too straight. I will be better prepared if there is a next time. The wife said that there will not be a next time.

The guys at Hayes Trailers in Russellville were very helpfull. Had to pay full price for everything but they did pack the bearings and put the seal in to the hub for me. Made it a little easier/quicker to get underway.

I probably could have found some place closer but they opened at 7:00 on Monday and had everything I needed. Just had to drive 60 miles round trip. I got everything put back together and back on the road by 10:00.

The manager of the truck repair at the Pilot station was not too helpful. One of his guys helped me by bringing out some of his own tools (bearing puller, etc.) out the back door to get me going.

The trip was definately another adventure.

P.S. Don't stay at the WinGate Hotel in Clarksville.

You know, you DO have race buddies that live close by and probably would have rode shotgun with you.

Fixed it for you and it sounds like the boss won't be allowing you to leave the state again... :hide

too bad I didn't know either (about how close you were) I could have put you up instead of a cheap hotel. Sent PM with cell # in case you ever find yourself back in the area
