Visit from Opentracker and his daughter

Had a wonderful visit today from John Dinkel (Opentracker) and his wonderful daughter Ermalyn. I picked up another welder for him and have been storing it for awhile. Since I have recently fallen into a crappy welding slump, Dr. Dinkel thought now would be a good time for a road trip up to my place to set me straight and pick up his welder.

They came to my work to see Shag, the GTO and the truck then we went to my house for a little welding seminar. Afterwards it was beer and pizza time at the Oasis beer garden next to Stanford University.

I cannot emphasize now nice it was to have such an expert welder standing next to me critiquing my work. As soon as I watched him I saw immediate flaws in my approach to this art. Ermalyn was an angel as she watched (yes with her own welding helmet). Finally she wanted to weld as well.

I am betting that John's daughter was the one giving the critique to Craig. Always nice when the kids get involved.

That's a cute picture! I hope she didn't hurt your feelings when critiquing your skilzs Craig.

I want to thank Craig for being such a good host. We had a great time. Shag looks better in person than in the photo's for sure and that GTO, wow, one bad ass car. Red is a nice ride too, I bet it's easy to find in the parking lot.
That was the first weld Ermalyn had ever done and it looked OK. I'm sure it helped to have Dad holding her arms. She held the trigger on her own and never let up. I had to tell her to stop. All she wanted to talk about on the way home was welding.

My little helper, I'm so proud :toot

That is so awesome! I wish I had a little girl (don't get sick, I mean for a daughter), I have three boys. Only one can weld... he's 18. Keep her involved that is so cool!

It was fun. Craig is a great guy and he made if fun for us. Ermalyn really wants to help. She asked about it again last night so we are going to the shop today to do some welding. I hope to make a little toy or statue that she can keep for the rest of her life. My 4yr old JD wants to help too but the welding will have to wait till he can reach the vise.

Dear JD,
You can come up to my house where the vice is much lower. We can make a bunch of Mr. Woody Jr's.
