VIVA INDIA!

I finally put some images up from my trip, of which I'm 4 weeks into. India is a wonderous place! Here's my impression of the people here:
- 30% just want your money :thu
- 20% are decidedly indifferent :wtf
- But 50% will bend over backwards to help you! :pbj
(warning - you have to treat them like human beings)

India is a total assault of the senses for sure! You either hate it or love it.

What is your trip plan? My wife and I spent 6 weeks there in 2004, had a fantastic time. Started in Dehli and went to Jaipur, Agra, Kajuraho, Varanissi, Darjeeling then up into Sikkim for a 6 day trek in the Himalaya, then back to Delhi. Met some really nice people.

I'm here 35 days total. I have 6 or 7 left. Spent 3 weeks in Rajasthan after arriving in Dehli-Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and a small village near an Ashram south of Jodhpur. Finishing the trip in Anjuna, Goa. Off to the beach in a bit for some Goan Beef!

I love it here. Too much to see. I have an offer to stay in Rajasthan for 6 months and there's work for me. Since finding a decent job in the USA is getting more difficult, I may just take work here. Despite IST (Indian Stretchable Time), things do get done here. These people have a will and determination like I've never seen. 8000+ years of culture and lessons learned from British Colonialism have made India a power to be reckoned with. Not having High Fructose Corn Syrup in all the sodas and fiber in most all foods has helped as well. . .

"everybody knows the Tuesday train comes on Wednesday"... Thats what one of my friends was told when they were there!

6 months working there will be a test of paitence. My 6 weeks sort of got me ready to have kids. Like getting a puppy really!

You can't beat the food there, we loved it and still do when we can find a decent place here or head back to England.

I hope to be in Rajasthan during the hottest part of the summer and Goa during the height of the Monsoon. I'm gonna need a crash course in Hindi first! Then I'll move onto Bengali, Kashmiri, Dravidian, etc. . . Wish me luck! :hide

My 2 Belgian friends were caught in Varanassi where the train only comes every three days. It cost them 3800rs for a 300km 7hr taxi to make a flight that was cancelled. . .

So it goes. . .

Back in the USA! I guess we barely made it into Chicago. My body seems to be handling it OK-3 days ago I was in the tropics, then dusty Dehli, and now a winter wonderland. Back in CA in a few days. More pics to come!
