Was sad to hear this today

Wow.. another WWII veteran gone. :( I hate to see the day there are no more and their stories get lost.

My husbands grandfather was a medic in WWII vet himself and just passed away Saturday morning at the age of 86. He served in the Army Medical Corps in England, France, Belgium and Germany. Landed on the Beaches of Normandy on "D" Day as well, but was later wounded at Huertgen Forrest when a mine blow up as he was carrying a wounded solider to safety. He was awarded.. Purple Heart, ETO Ribbon, 3 Battle Stars.

Yep, the stories will be gone forever. Sorry to see them all go. The newer wars are just not the same.........

My grandfather was in the pacific in WWII but he passed away at 80 years old in 1998.

He never talked much about the war, from what I gathered he just wanted to forget it. He had the disabled vet plates till the day he died and always wore a leg brace and walked with a limp but never did say how he hurt his leg.

Only story about the war he ever told me (and believe as a kid I asked, LOL!) was one time we were building a battle ship in his wood shop. He mentioned one time they were at sea hitching a ride with the navy and hit storm similar to a hurricane. He said the boat was going pretty much straight up one side of a wave and straight down another. Even the most hardened of sailors were turning green and hanging over the rails. I still have that battle ship we made that summer in the wood shop at home and would never part with it even at gun point :)

Hate to see the last of that generation leaving us.

When I was home nearly dying of dengeherpalaria the Monday after Christmas, Spike I think, ran Band of Brothers from start to finish. Watched the whole thing for about the 7th time.

I wondered how much longer he might be with us.

Sad indeed. An awesome individual.
