Washing machine died...

i think its just the switch/dial, I turn it and pull to start and nothing, dont hear a hum from the motor, but it doesnt start to fill with water or anything. Any idea where to start, I would much rather repair than replace at this time. Its a GE model if that helps.....

Google is your friend here. Plug in the model number and symptom(s) and you'll find plenty of trouble shooting help. If it has a pull type knob versus a touch pad, it will be a cheap parts fix. Parts are easy to find and cheap too.

You could be looking at something as simple as a micro-switch interlock on the door, etc.

I am glad you didn't just go out and buy a new one---google is a good friend most of the time---I had a sears salesman tell me a while back new washers are "7 year cycle" no matter how much they cost---wow--imagine throwing away a $1500-$2,000 washer every 7 years! Ours is starting to make a new noise on spin cycle-- it is going on 7 years old.

Who's spending $1500 on a washing machine? A reasonably good model is $300-500.

Better yet is the old-fashioned kind that are "free", but you have to put up with her cooking and vocalizations...

Wow, I've had my W/D now since 1998. Only needed minor parts so far!
