My daughter is 16 and a junior in high school. She has been wanting texting forever (in the eyes of a teenager). The SWMBO finally gave in and we added unlimited to our family plan. The SWMBO's fear was that it would take away her writing/grammar skills. She is taking AP English this year and her grade if not at an "A" right now a percentage point or 2 away from it. I have wanted it also realizing sometimes just a short answer is all that I need to a question. fd

I wouldn't worry about the written grammar suffering as much as the spoken word. You'll find the kids spend almost every moment texting their friends. Actual conversation becomes a lost art. They'll sit in the same room together and text back and forth instead of talking.

Great, forward your number to Jeremy so you can join the E-lite club :ecit

We got texting a year ago. Youngest was almost 13... she lives with the phone attached to her. No change in her grades, Honors student. My favorite thing is I can always get ahold of her instantly. The downside? she wore out an Env2 in the first year... Although, much to my surprise 2 weeks before the warranty ended (forgot it was 12 mo) Verizon gave her a brand new replacement.

my oldest is now 19, he has had texting for a long time. It really saved on our phone bill! My soon to be 13 year old texts a little as we have a family plan. It hasn't been a problem. They all managed to keep good grades but as Horseplay said they do text each other while sitting in the same room!

It was my kids friends parents that wanted words with us... lol.
Took my now 13yo and her friend to the Mall yesterday, they could do their thing and i could do mine. Checked in every half hour and was able to round them up when I was ready to go!

Let them think what they want. My daughter has had her phone for 2 years now. She did not get it until high school. Remember a cell phone means that you are able to talk to them at any time.
Besides what is any different when you are a kid or an adult. I see some of you dudes with amazing rides, fabulous garages and SWMBO to die for. :craz And I want that too. So when she says "I want" I say "what is it like to want." :lol fd
