Well that was kinda fun...

I'm in Brazil for a couple of weeks and have been coming as many as 4 times a year since 97. Today the engineer I have been working with at a customer site asked me if I would come to a class he teaches. He volunteers to teach English for his Church. He speaks well enough that I can understand him and he has had formal training but it's still broken English and with a heavy accent. I speak enough Portuguese to get into trouble but I get by. He wanted me to practice speaking in conversation with his class so they could hear an American speak in the native tongue. I said sure so I went to eat near the hotel and he called me and asked if he could pick me up. So I went tonight for about a half an hour. They were poor people in a small village but very very friendly. Some were old, some teens and some children. They all were excited but the little girls (no perversion here please cuz they were LITTLE) were following me like a puppy and when it was time to go they followed me out of the building. It was a really cool experience. I told the guy I had fun and was glad to have had the experience. I only speak what little I pick up when I travel and not all of it could be repeated in a Church. He asked if we could set up a Skype account and would I speak with his class from time to time, I said yes and I think it will be fun. I may even learn proper Portuguese.

oh, I almost forgot the rule... I didn't take my camera to the class but here is a picture from my hotel in Cabreuva

How about some pics of the scenery at the beaches?

I also enjoy giving lectures/talks at elementary schools. Kids can be interested in all sorts of things. I usually talk about the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, and they sit in rapture of the true story.

If I get time, this weekend I'll hit the beach. No time during the week days. They work long days and eat late down here.

I guess you've never heard the urban legend of the South American black market for organs. The legend is that they drug you and remove one of your kidneys, which they sell. You wake up in the morning sore with stitches in your back, less one kidney.

That would suck!

Hey Tarafied1, I just noticed your Sig, it cracked me up! Cool way to come up with a name!

I'll remember not to fall asleep at MBB (if I get there) with you around :scar

The joke would be on you once you tried to use one of my abused kidneys anyway.

Craig, sounds like a nice diversion from a normal 'work' trip. I've used skype to talk with my brother in Austin, gets fun when you add things like beards, lizard heads, etc. Did you getcha' one of them there Brazilian waxes while you're there?
