What do you guys think of this?

Kind of a what's it's worth thread, but not.

I'm thinking about picking up this truck. It's a local auction and if the price doesn't go to high I may jump in on it.

It's a 1980 F350. Auction said rebuilt engine 9,000 miles ago, 58,000 on the odometer.

Bidding is at $950.

I know a lot of you are die hard Ford guys. I've never much of a Ford fan so I'm a little unsure on this one.

What do you all think?

Seems to be a "honest" truck. Looks great in the pics.
Now , just look for a time correct trailer and you have a nice combo to go to shows or visiting them .

looks like a decent truck. If it had the 460 you will hate the fuel mileage...expect 7 mpg! I am not sure when they did away with the variable Venturi carb, but the one on my 77 was a nightmare and out here in n California you can’t change that out on a truck newer than 75. If you don’t have those smog restrictions you should be good. EFI it and gain a couple more mpg’s.

When I worked in California , prior to 1994 , I sold lots of Holley conversion carbs to replace the variable Venturi carbs.
I also had a dispute with C.A.R.B. and I won in regards to the emissions on my 1966 Mustang. It’s was lots of fun screwing with them.

I'm actually not sure what engine it is. Not much info in the online auction.

I don't have to worry about emissions testing out here. So I can pretty modify it however. Maybe an LS swap.. kidding.

I just wish it was 4 wheel drive. And the long bed is kind of gangly looking.

Love the big trucks but need to check the towing capacity. Normally I would jump from a 250 to a 450.

I bet someone bought that years ago just to tow their camper. And judging by the stripes I'll about bet it was Shasta. Any takers? :)

If it suits a purpose for you, then by all means. But not really a good run-around-empty truck.

PS, I [i) LIKE[/i] those old VV carbs. I still have a couple I got great use out of. One 351W F100 I had got 21 mpg on the freeway with one. And an AOD.

I ended up not getting the truck. I bid on it, but decided not to keep bidding.

I just didn't feel I had enough info without a chance to inspect it and honestly I don't need another vehicle that will rarely get driven.

Went to look pick up my other auction items and the truck was in the lot and sure enough look what was sitting with it...

That looked like a nice deal. I would look for a 7.3 powerstroke if you want a clean old truck to drove around. Spent awhile looking but found mine and I love it.
