Ive had a hard time finding a dump utility bed like that to compare with.

Careful with the 6 Liters.... Run the VIN at a Ford dealer and get the service history. Pull the cap in the coolant tank and check for oil floatin around in there.

Interesting ryan, thanks. What do you think of 6 liter when compared with a V10?

A friend is going out of buisness and elected to auction off everything next week. Im kind of interested in a few of his trucks if they stay available at the right price.

V10 has some decent torque but can be a bit thirsty. Diesels are the way to go on the bigger trucks but the 6 liters were a lemon from day one.

V10 is awesome except when you need fuel economy. We got 10 in our Excursion, but it would tow awesome. The school van got 15 but was 2WD.

The Excursion had 431 limited slip diffs which were awesome. I think it did everything better than my F350 PS except MPG.

Mel, what motor was in the f350? How many miles did u get out of the excursion? This v10 truck is an f350 it already has 100k on it but is very clean. I'm reading online of people getting 300k out of the v10 only changing normal wear items. Im needing a bigger truck as the scope of my business is changing. I just don't want to pay top dollar until everything gets settled.

I had a 99 F250 with the V10 and it ran well over 100k with no troubles. Had the 4.31 rear end, got about 7-8 miles per gallon towing 15,000lbs. The 4R100 auto trans are only good for 100k on average under heavy use conditions.

Jake, being in the northeast, check the exhaust manifolds. They tend to rust and pop the heads off the retaining bolts and getting an annoying exhaust leak. It can be an expensive job if you're unable to extract the broken bolt from the aluminum head. I've had good luck getting them out but have heard some horror stories. Just something to keep an eye out for.

Ryan the v10 has a broken stud on the manifold. All look really rusty. But the truck in general is in remarkable shape.

Good call on the 6.0 liter diesel. The turbo was replaced under warranty. About 15 k miles ago. As a whole, this truck looks really good too. They get auctioned off tomorrow back to back. If the turbo went once, is that a reason to stay away from it? I have no real world experience with diesel trucks.

I took the wife out today to see everything and she liked a quad cab f150 (2010). It still smelled new. I'll see what happens, but I know I want a deal, and I'm not paying anything near retail for anything. There's a ton of good tools too.

I have a buddy that's spent thousands on his work truck (6.0) and it's still below 100K miles! Find a low mileage 7.3!

The manifolds could be fine for a while, just listen on cold start up to see if they are actually leaking yet. You'll get alot of noise on cold start up. Noise goes away as it heats up and expands.

As for the 6 Liter, they just scare me. I know some run great without problems but there are just too many horror stories about them. Not just internet ones either. I've seen first hand quiet a few with problems.

:stu A low mileage 7.3 is anything under 200,000 miles. Mine has 170,000 and hasn't broken in yet!

Yep, my 2000 only has 145,000 on the clock!
