what's this wire fer?

I found this wire on the back of my ignition, it was cut, anyone? midlife? LOL

it's the smaller wire that hooks to the left, it's cut off just past the inline fuse

That's probably a AC power line (although that is not fused), a low fuel relay power line (color would be blue/red), speed control power line (a rare option!, wire would be green). For 68's, a different set of lines are possible.

My guess is low fuel relay.
 
It provides power to a relay that takes the low fuel signal line and converts it into a light on a console panel that contains low fuel, seat belts, parking brake, and door ajar. It's a fairly rare option.
 
since we're talking ignition switch, in the effort of trying to keep my engine bay looking stock can I mount the MSD box under the dash and use the back of the ignition switch for the red wire that's suppose to go to the battery and ground at the dash?
