took a few minutes tonight away from all the planning for the new shop, looking at equipment etc. & decided to do some daydreaming/planning on the new tr4/v-8 conversion project. the car was outside, so survived the fire, but a bunch of the parts i had gathered up for the swap were lost along with a bunch of the mustang parts. i'm trying to decide if i want to widen the stock 15x5" wheels to 15x7" & use the stock caps, or have the hubs, rotors & rear axles redrilled to the ford pattern & possibly running the 2005 mustang 16x7" v-6 wheel. this will depend on how these wheels fit with the late model offset.

whatcha think? widen the stockers or go with the late model?

Between the 2 of those, I would go stock.
Maybe look at mini mags like on the Boss trans am racers or a chevy rallye styled wheel. I think either one of those would look nice.

Widen the stockers for sure.......the new wheel/tire also fills the well to much. Maybe lower the car a bit to take out the gap at the top.

I like the 06 wheels. They remind me of the old halibrand knock-offs. I think they fit the bill on the car, especially you wanting to v8 it.

+1 i dig em

I like the V6 wheels too... but if you widen the stock wheels, are you planning to do this yourself or send 'em out? I've got a pair of set of Chevy wheels I want to widen from 15x7 to 15x9... however I just found out that Speedway motors sells 15" wheel shells without centers so that you can build your own wheels. The rim ID is 12-5/8". Unfortunately, 7" and 9" widths are not available.

thats what i thought too. i had even thought about glass beading the centers to soften the edges & give them a vintage look, then clearing them with the flat clear so they wouldn't stand out & look more like the old magnesium wheels. i'm just not sure if they'll work with the 39mm offset. i'm not gonna do all the work to change lug patterns & then have to use adapters (hate those things) i'll figure out what i want when i get further along with the build.

i did find another 5.0 efi motor today. it's in a 90 lincoln with less than 100k & runs like a top (bad trans). can get everything including the ecm for about $200 so may do it. i still need to look over the 96 explorer gt40p motor & see how it fared in the fire. externally it looks o.k. except for some sensors that melted on the intake so hoping internally its good. where it was at in the shop didn't get any direct fire, just the heat.

I would say : stay with classic ones.So stock or ......minilite rims , I love them and are time correct.
