Who's watching Barrett Jackson Auction?

As I watch the cars roll across the bidding stage, I think that I'll buy my next vintage car already restored. I've seen a few cars/trucks sell for around 20k. Doesn't seem like there is any possible way you could restore a car for that cost these days (well, unless you do ALL the work yourself, including paint & body work).

What do y'all think?

I'm watching and thinking about how bad of a loss some are taking but I dont think I would be happy with an already restored car. I have yet to finish restoring one but I love knowing every bit of my cars inside and out. I know its not the best move financially restoring a car but its better than blowing your money on a bad drug habit or gambling.

In this market it would be a good deal to buy a restored car, save you a buttload of $$$, but I agree, I'd rather spend a little and then sink a ridiculous amount of money into it, knowing I'll never it get it back :eek:mg

Lots of deals out there for those that can't do the work.

lots of good deals out there, but many of those B/J cars that sell so cheap don't really sell. it's the seller "buying it back", paying the fees & bringing it back home. i know a builder here locally that hits a home run one time, then brings everything back home the next with a much lighter wallet from paying the percentages & fees. guess it's better to pay out a few grand than to lose alot more by selling.

Like glue. I would love to build something just to get to go. Its on the "bucket list". I know a local man that took one of "Allisons" cars (I think) out there, after receiving low bids, he had to but it back, paying both the "sellers" and "buyers" fee (like 18%). Lost over 30k.

Wow they'll let the seller bid on their own stuff? Or is the guy using a shill?

In the past, I had seen convertible Mustangs going for huge amounts Barrett and I was thinking to myself the people were crazy to pay that much.

But the market is such right now that even locally I can find some real deals on Craig's list, etc. Keep thinking it would be a great time to buy but I don't have the time or space to keep another project right now.

Watching......
Thought it might be worth while to buy a car there, drive it a year and bring it back to sell.

I tend to agree with you, I watched the auction and it seems to me cars that cost 100K to restore sold for half that amount

Is it just me or do they seem to go to commercial every or almost every time a classic Mustang is coming on stage ?? I printed out the line up for the week so I knew when a Mustang was coming up and last night when the CJ was about to roll up, boom commercial and when they came back it was on the roll off ramp 4 cars later a '68 fastback was next, boom commercial and when they came back it was no where in sight, gone completely. I noticed it last year as well. Maybe Sat. night when they are loaded up with Shelby's they might show a few. :po

Dale, it's like that every year!

Corvette, Corvette, Corvette, Corvette, Corvette, Camaro, Corvette, Corvette, Corvette, Corvette, Corvette, Camaro....got to commercial while the Fords roll by.

I didn't think it was at random, they sure seem to schedule the Darrell Guinn and all the other pat BJ on the back charity cars in between comercials. Just not the Fords. They had 4 or 5 '67-69 Camaro's back to back around 11:00 last night and they got them in. :po

Maybe since they are planning a long run of Shelbys on the weekend they are sipping Fords for the moment.

Best way to watch is on DVR....FF all the crap....did notice that they rarely show more than two cars before going to commercial and sometimes only one car.

IIRC, they answered this on the program last year - they don't allow sellers to bid on thier lots.

But, lots of those guys know each other, so I'm sure getting a friend to help you out is not too hard.
