Why do I want so much?

So now that I have this new job I need a "work vehicle." It could be anything really, even a smart arse car. :craz But after looking at Escapes, Focus, F150s and Rangers I have settled on a Ranger. I had a Ranger before and sold it after I bought the 07 Mustang. I no longer had a need for it with a work van and the SWMBO pressuring me to sell it. I know what I want, white or silver, V6, power windows door locks and mirrors, extended cab with 4 doors <10K. So I am looking and looking and then I stumble across an FX4 Ranger in my price range, only it is Screaming Yellow. :barf But the truck is "loaded" leather seats and all. It is located very close to me so I stopped by to look at it. One of the steel rims is bent up, the bed has been well used (no big deal) a few dents and dings here and there. It is an 06 with 71K and priced at half the value listed in the Kelly Blue book. So I emailed the dealer to see if I could see the CarFax. Have not heard back yet, but I am stuck on this type of Truck now. That truck was probably in some kind of accident. :sad I really have no need for a 4 wheel drive truck, I just like the way that they are equipped from the factory and look. I will get over it in a few days, but that truck is really cool and the color is growing on me. Plus I am starting to get the "new to me car fever." :craz

Those Ranger trucks are DIFFICULT to work on, and in the end, they're still a Ford. Make sure it's what you really want before sinking too much money in it.

I bought a Ranger FX4 brand new in 2002, and it was an awesome little truck. I'm sorry I ever sold it. They don't retain their value well, so you can get a deal on a used one. BTW, is that thing GO?

I have a ranger XLT 4x4 that I bought new in 2003. I have 60K on it with no problems. I have owned Rangers since 1986 and they have held up great for me. I had a 1993 for 11 years til I bought the 2003 and I gave that one to my oldest son. He drove it for 2 years and sold it. It had 168K on it when he sold it. The 4.0 V6 just gets 15-19 mpg. Thats the only beef I have with the 4x4, but I knew that going into this most recent ranger. I think you will enjoy the FX.

Damn...If I can find ethanol free regular gas, my 08, 4x4, 5.4 liter 150 gets that kind of mileage. I thought Rangers would get better than that.

Tim, my F350 four door long bed 7.3L powerstroke gets better fuel mileage than the ranger.

I wouldn't touch a ranger with a 10' pole. The F150 gets better mpg.

Why not get an older full size pickup with a small block in it or diesel? You'll spend less money on an 88-92 truck and get more options and same mpg...you'll be able to tow stuff too.

A couple months ago I found a 89 F150 short bed 4x4 with a 5.0 in it with shell, extra cab and manual trans for $1750.

No payment is a good thing. My future son in law found a Jeep Cherokee for $850, it is missing the rear seats, but they needed a hauler. The thing runs awesome and it doesn't look bad either. It passes CA smog first try.

Just something to think about.
