...or How I Drove Home Tonight
As I was driving home tonight, we get to the other side of Woodland (about 20 miles outside of Sacramento and a long way yet to go). Sabrina (The SWMBO) asks me, "Whats that noise?". I look in the rearview mirror to find this:
The tire was rapidly disappearing. I pull over on the shoulder jump out and start kicking myself. My first mistake was never getting a spare for the trailer...The second mistake was: this morning shortly after we left, Sabrina (The Wise) asked is there a spare for the trailer. Nah...we don't need one, the tires are decent. I know that I'll never live that one down!!! It was the front tire on the driver's side. I'm standing there looking at the tire, wishing I would have turned around and grabbed the spare out of her mustang...I think that the bolt pattern is Ford. I'm looking at my mustang on the trailer, how can I get a front tire off without taking the car off the trailer and with only the crappy Dodge jack. After scratching my butt on the side of I-5, I figured I better get the tire off. I had a couple of 2x4's in the back of the truck that I drove the rear trailer tire on and yanked the front tire off. I've heard that you can drive with only the rear tire on a tandem axle trailer, so I drove the rest of the way home like this:
I already unloaded the car, so you can imagine with ~3000 lbs on the trailer that the hub was a little closer to the ground. And no I won't load the car back on the trailer for a picture!!
