Yep, some delictable Euro cars in those years... many that would hold thier own with muscle cars.

I ran across the list earlier today and read it. Yes, the times they were bad...very bad. Since I worked as a dealership mechanic during this period I saw it first hand. It's also the reason I ended up joining the military! Lay offs were all too common and wasn't a good industry for a young man just starting out and wanting to support a family. With that said, I think the article would have held a little more credibility with me if it had been more accurate and less "National Enquirer" journalism.

As an example; frequently mentioned were the horsepower ratings and how "terrible" they were. IMHO if the "reporter" would look back a few years early to the fact HOW the HP rating was changed, and subsequent impact on listed HP, they would see there wasn't that great a change in some of the cars listed. But that doesn't make for good "drama". They also stated that the Delorean was slow and commented about the engine in what appeared to be a veiled attempt to say it was junk. Sorry....it was actually a pretty good engine, especially for the period. Not only have I driven brand new Deloreans, I was one of the first factort certified Delorean mechanics on the east coast! Speaking of the Delorean, they also fell into the uneducated drivel that the car had stainless steel body panels......almost correct Mr. Shaw! They were paper thin SS panels screwed (yes, self taping sheetmetal screws!), over the actual fiberglass body! The car DID have quality issues and wasn't worth the asking price, but the writer never touched on the true problems!

Oh well, when an "automotive reporter" claims a Chevy Citation looks "pretty cool", I guess you have to question every other car related comment they make! :wtf
