I am most likely taking my test for brown belt this evening.

Originally, Sensei had today in mind. I got to class last Sunday and he asked if I wanted to do it on Sunday. I said sure why not...then he changed his mind due to time constraints. Nothing like walking in to a surprise test, getting psyched up for it then not taking it, LOL!

So last I heard, we are on deck for this evening.

If we bother to actually get the test done this time, I'll let you know how it goes but wish me luck :vic

Good luck man. Watched quite a few rank tests in my dad's classes, so I kinda know what you're in for.

I kinda felt sorry for the folks going for their black belt. The tests were brutal.

Good luck!! :vic What form of martial arts do you take?

My son was learning Shorin Ryu Karate. I think that was it. I need to get my son back into it. He LOVED it when we lived up in Havelock NC..... and he looked really adorable in his little outfit kicking butt. :lol

Sparring match. My son, white belt vs an orange belt. My son won!

The test seem to get worse as you move up. I have this one and brown with stripe then black. I am in no hurry to get to the black belt test.

The two worst tests I've had to date were for white with stripe and blue...white with stripe was tough due to being nervous. I'd never taken a test and didn't know what to expect but it went fine after I got started. Now test make me a little nervous driving there but once I put my gee on and hit the mat it's like flipping a switch...put the game face on and do the job you have to do. Test for blue was no fun because I was getting over bronchitis....I remember that test starting and it ending but everything in between is a blur.

Kat...my boys and I train in Aikido. They've been in the kids program for three and a half years. They have a couple more exams then they'll be Jr. Black belts. (Aikido won't allow anyone under either 16 or 17 to be a "real" black belt) I've been training for about three years and some days think I am getting too old for this :lol

Picture of the boys and our Sensei is attached.

No way!! You're only as old as you act. I'm going act 20 until the day I die! :vic

Your sons are so cute!!

Nah, you ain't getting too old for it. My dad is pushing 60, just had hip replacement surgery, and will start back teaching classes in 2 weeks.

Well the good news is I passed it. That test was a pita. I was getting tired and my legs were cramping towards the end.

Had to do a couple of multiple attacker sets after doing all my other rank requirements. First I had a set of three yellow with stripe people coming after me and made it through that. Next set was three black belts coming after me and I was really running out of gas towards the end of that one.

But it's all good and it's passed.

I don't want to see that darn "it didn't happen if no pictures" thing so I took a picture with Sensei after the test.

By the way Kat, I asked Sensei and he said he knows of a good school in Bryan. He actually sublets it to have the A&M Aikido club classes there two days a week during the Spring and fall semesters. If you want me to get the number for you let me know.

I'll call Sensei tomorrow and get the number then send it to you via private message. It dawned on me on the way to class to ask Sensei if he knew anyone up your way. He knows a lot of people in the area involved in martial arts because he's been training for about 30 years and has several different black belts.

Congrats on your advancement!
I was involved in karate back in the early 70's. I was up for my brown belt test and something happened,(can't remember for sure, got sick or something) but I never did go back and finish. One of my life's regrets.
