That destroyer must have some reeeeeaaalllyyy super secret hardware for $4.4 billion . . . The most recent US carrier (USS Gerald R Ford) cost a mere $13 billion.

I believe it is supposed to be retrofitted n capable for the electromagnetic rail gun.
Youre probably right . . . I didn't think the rail gun was that expensive . . . unless they are trying to recover all the R & D costs in the first deployment.
