67 Wiper/washer controls

Ok, guys. I am trying to get my head around the wipers/windscreen washers on my 67 FB.

So, I have my gauge cluster with the wiper switch. I am guessing that this is not variable? Is it possible to make this variable like the 65-66 upgrade that NPD do?

I also need to buy a new wiper motor so this is an ideal time to change to a variable motor/setup.

Then I like the idea of the floor mounted foot pump for the washers which I believe also activate the wipers for a single pass but should I consider an electric motor? Options?

Has anyone got info/tips/guides on the options I have.

And don't forget I live in Ireland and it rains a lot.

Johnny, I originally installed intermitten wipers in Red. Both the motor and switch came out of a couple Ford trucks. Since the 65-66 Mustangs have twist activated switches, this conversion wasn't too dificult. But the 67-68 has a slider switch and I couldn't see how I could have attached a twist switch in same place. Thus I did not install an intermitten wiper system in Shag. Besides who really drives their Mustangs in the rain?

Per your link, it looks like they also use a twist type of switch, Thus the question on how it could fit in the same area as the stock slider switch. Also note that the stock system they sell is only 2 speed. Intermitten (which is the most important feature) is extra.

I do.

I plan on using that system. I added a place on my dash just for that switch between the ignition switch and the radio bezel. Where the ashtray used to be.

And i have no choice even with no intention of driving in the rain, Irish weather is very unpredictable ....and you'll notice i didn't bother with A/C.

stop showing off with your sunny, no rain Cali weather.

Thanks Craig.

I am starting to think that an ash tray mod would be good as no one is ever going to smoke in my stang.

That is why I removed it. Too much prime space to waste.

How about drilling a hole towards to bottom of the heater control panel for a switch. Seems much easier than eliminating the ash tray. If you don't like it, you can then simply replace the heater control panel.

Hey Craig,

What's the difference between intermitten and intermittent? I know, I know... :nut

Good idea Craig.

I just ordered a replacement heater control panel so i can do a test on my old one.

I will post some pics of the mod when i get stuck into it.

I'm not too familiar with the 67-68 dash but couldn't you just mount the switch in the cigarette lighter hole? It would keep the stock appearance. If you get stuck in the rain, open the ashtray and turn them on... :shrug

The cigarette lighter hole in in the ash tray for the 67-68.

Yeah, so why wouldn't that work? Maybe because of the curve of the ash tray might not allow the switch to snug up against the cigarette lighter hole. I will do a test today on gtscode's ashtray and one of my extra intermittent switches. The only reason to not give up the cigarette lighter is if you use it to charge your cel phone.

Not knowing if NPD's intermittent switch is smaller in diameter, I tried one of my Ford truck intermittent switch in the cigarette lighter hole and there's no room due to the curve of the ashtray as you can see below. I guess you would have to reconstruct the entire ashtray inner tray to make it work.

Here's an intermittent set up out of a F150 or 250 truck

Here you can see there is lots of room at the bottom of heater control plate.
