8 inch center section & fill plugs?

So I picked up a stock 3.00 center section. It came from a 64.5/260 car. No fill plug in center section, it was in the case for early cars...but am wanting to put it in the 68 which does not have the rear fill plug. So am I stuck? I really don't want to have to break them down for a gear swap, but is that the only option? Maybe it could fill thru the vent tube? Any ideas guys?

I just installed a drain plug in our '65 rear axle housing, using a 1/4" pipe plug and tap. Very simple. But the only issue is knowing how much oil you are adding and when to stop. I guess if the mfg says it requires for instance 2 quarts, then you probably can put the fill hole anywhere as long as you put in just 2 quarts and the hole is somewhere above the 2 quart line.
