Lack of a thrust bearing

Guy brought me his 67 vert w/ 200 cid. Said he had a rod knock. I was not convinced. Anyway he ask me to rebuild it with his re-enlistment bonus. When I pulled the torque converter inspection plate, I found the bedix pin and chewed of metal. When I pulled the pan I found the rear thrust and a piece of wire in the pan. Turns out the #5 was replaced with a regular bearing instead of a thrust. Lateral movement ate the back bearing moving the cranl all around chewing up the starter. Waiting for the crank to be welded. I'll try to put some pics up of the pieces.
