Poor Mans Emergency Flasher

I was looking at some motorcycle flasher switches and was wondering.

Shouldn't a switch that is wired to the "L" of the flasher. Then the other two legs wired to the + of of both signal lights work?

Except there are four wires for output: front left and front right, rear left and rear right. Basically, flasher input, a switch and four outputs. Ford designed theirs at the input to the turn signal switch, which handles the distribution between front and rear.
