House Fire Leaves 1 Dead, 1 in Hospital

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Screams filled the evening sky as family members try to cope with what happened Monday in a South Memphis community. Two children, 2-year old Catareon Dunn and 3-year old Ladareon Dunn, were left home alone shortly before a fire broke out.

Officials responded to a house fire call at 1236 Effie Road off Mt. Moriah.

The two boys were left unattended while their mother and aunt left the house to go drop off a friend. Sometime after that, 911 received a call from neighbors saying the house was on fire.

Neighbors say they heard screams coming from the house and rushed to the back door to try and rescue the children. However, when they got there, the flames and smoke were too powerful for them to enter.

When the children were finally pulled from the house, onlookers described them as looking like "rag dolls." Both were rushed to the Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in critical condition. Ladareon died shortly thereafter. Catareon remains in critical condition.

The children’s aunt, Marilyn Wilson, who left the house with the mother, said she had no regrets about leaving the children home alone, “No, I really don’t because if they had been there by themselves, I don’t know if the boys set the house on fire or somebody threw something in there to set it on fire. I really need to get in there to see if my purse burned up. I had my Food Stamp Card and everything in there.�

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Memphis Fire Department.

What kind of sorry excuse for a mother leaves kids that young unattended?

I sincerely hope they really throw the book at her.
 
A lil update: Both boys died. The mother and aunt are still in prison. I think both of them should be guilty of criminal negligence and manslaughter.

The children's aunt Marilyn Wilson is still behind bars. Wilson was arrested last week, but not for anything having to do with this case. She was picked up by police for failing to appear in court for a 2006 theft charge and driving on a suspended license, due to unpaid child support.

I heard about this the day after it happened. When I heard the aunt running her mouth, I felt ill. Two babies died because this bitch wanted to go shopping, and both of these mental pillars are guilty.
 
It makes me emotional to think how scared those kids must have been. And how poor a chance at a decent life some parents give their kids. If this woman was capable of this, how else did she neglect these kids?

You know, when I wasn't a father, these things made me sad and a little angry. Now, I'm not even sure how to express what I feel. Amazing how fast that changed - in the blink of an eye.

It has that affect on you doesn't it?

I know now when I read about some of these stories about abused kids, etc I think of my own two little guys and what I'd do to someone if they ever did anything like some of the stories I hear / read to one of my kiddos. All I can say is they would be lucky if the cops locked them away before I got to them if it were my kids.
 
Has anyone been following the case of the mother whose 5y.o. daughter went missing. Just found the daughter's body. Mother sold the baby as a prostitute to a man and the little girl ended up dying. Mother now in jail for prostitution of a child and human trafficking.

Heard the judge reading the lenghts of sentences for those crimes to her. 216 and 98 months. Really? That's it? Why don't we execute people who would do that to children?
 
That is not too far from Sanborn's area. It's truly disgusting. I can't take much of this kinda stuff. I have to "glaze over" it. Everytime I hear of something like this I think of my kids, how someone could do that, and wish I could be the one providing "justice". Death is too good for these people. My methods would make Charles Manson look like a choirboy. Disgusting. Truly disgusting.
 
There's a lot of perverts out there unfortunately.

There is a guy that was in my HS graduating class that did time in prison for something to do with kiddie porn. A few folks have politely let him know it would be a very good idea for him to skip any reunion type events, especially the "family day" they had one Sunday afternoon in the park a few years back.

You just never know though. When I was in college I worked with a guy at a Stop-n-Go type store. He seemed normal enough and was a contractor by trade...claimed he was picking up some extra work at the store to pay for a family vacation. When we moved back to this area about 8 years ago I checked the local sex offenders list on-line and surprise he was there. Two counts, one with a 12 yo girl and another with a 13 yo girl. Sorry but that is simply sick...there is nothing sexy about a 12 year old.

I noticed one time that he was working building a deck for a neighbor about three doors down from my old house. The two neighbors between us both had teenage girls so I went and knocked on their doors and warned them to keep a close eye on their daughters until the scum bag pervert was done with building the deck.
 
The death sentence for those that do such crimes.......

Take them up in a C-130 to about 12,000 feet, profferably over an ocean. Not much higher because you don't want them to sufficate from the lack of oxygen. Open the back and have them walk the plank. They should enjoy the fall from that altitude. It should make them think about their lives and their impending death. For a group you could tie their ankles together. All could have a good talk on the way down. And its earth freindly...fish food.

Goes back to a VMF post that went all to hell. Not to get too sidetracked but here's a story you'll love Dave. We get a lot of requests here at work to "donate" for various causes. Well, I get a letter the other day from a local school wanting something for nothing. The jist of the letter is this:

"We have a hard time getting parents to come to the school for a meeting about their child's educational progress. Therefore we are gonna "take the school" to their community. (gov't housing community) As a motivator for the parents to attend (remember, the school is going to them) we would like you to help us by providing...."

Yes, I flipped a lid. I'm just waiting for the school to follow up on the letter. They're saying not only that the parents won't come to the school, but the parents won't even meet 'em when the school goes to them!
 
Just another "just because you CAN breed, doesn't mean you should" case.

Duane, I know exactly what you're talking about. Ever since my wife got stuck teaching sped, there's been nothing but drama. There's nothing medically wrong with these kids, they're just punks, and their parent is MIA. MS sticks them in sped based on grades, thank you no child left behind. She's had to track down a few parents. But the don't really care. It's quite sad really to see a parent, who cares nothing for a kid other than the govt check they get. Most of them are already criminals.
