Uncle Vinny

I'm glad to hear he's making progress! Tell him that when I had my hip replacement that I was so full of morphine I couldn't even sit up at first without getting dizzy (they had given it to me when I had the epidural). But, on the second day when it was out of my system, I stood up and walked, with those horrible stockings on and with a walker. Every day I made progress, and he will, too. He mustn't ever give up, but just keep on pushing and he'll get through all this.

Give him some encouragement....tell him I'll bopp him in the nose next time I see him.

That should get his butt out of bed. :nut :thu

You're our link to the schlub Toni....keep getting our messages through.

Message from Toni:

Hi
I'm just plum too tired tonight to update on Stangfix
BUT...you're 4 Balloons certainly brought a wide
smile to Vin today.

He said: "I guess they like me" !!!!

Please post and tell everyone that you all
brightened up that dingy hospital room !!!

He got Flysure's card at the hospital. It was
delivered today by a volunteer. Maybe you
could post that too...ok.

I've not yet had the emotional ability to bring
Miss Gypsy home...I'll try again tomorrow
but I want her home with me.

Thank everyone for everything !!!!

I wrote on the inside of the card that he could pinch the nurses on the butt and blame it on meds and old age!

Rod, Did I forget to tell you that I heard that the hospital he's at is all male nursing staffed.

Oh and the little card that accompanied the balloons said something like "Get well Vinny, from the StangFix gang" The lady at the hospital's gift shop thought it was neat about a bunch of forum members thinking about fellow members and that her son wants a old Mustang really bad. Told her to pass the forum's name along to him.

Great to be recognized, lots of good people on this site.

Hi Everyone

It seems that they may discharge Uncle Vinny
tomorrow (Wed: 2/13).

They will check his walking / and going up steps in the morning
and make a decision then. But...it looks promising

He is off oxygen completely...no more morphine,
he is able to cough without the pillow.

Personally...I think they are releasing him a day
too soon since he has not walked in 7 days and
his legs hurt bad from the gout flare up.

I will find out tomorrow if they approve some
kind of home care / therapist visits, etc.

These folks are like "ghosts"...they appear, say
something, then go "poof" and just disappear

I had to make a little noise to get the Case Manager
and therapist into his room today. Hunting these
folks down sure was a chore. They certainly make it
difficult to get some straight answers.

Hopefully, I'll get whatever info I need tomorrow

After sitting in the vet's parking lot for about 3/4 of an hour,
I was able to compose myself and bring Miss Gypsy home

It was very very hard as many of you know to carry a
velvet bag with a small box in it. Vin broke down in the
hospital when I told him....it was heartbreaking to see.

So...I'll let you all know the decision the hospital makes
tomorrow.

He received Flysure's card and Bobby V's card
at the hospital. A card from Steve Leslie from Hawaii, and
DeLaMora's card both came to the house.

Yes...the Balloons were a big hit since they came from
a bunch of car guys from all around the country. The
hospital was quite impressed with your thoughfulness
and they were quite the "buzz" !!!

All Uncle Vinny keeps saying is: "I guess they like me
even though I'm the old guy" !!!!

Hi Everyone

Well...today I brought Uncle Vinny home

I think he should have stayed another day
since he just got off the oxygen and morphine
2 days ago and has been on his back for 7 days
with only one therapist visit to his room.

I managed to get him into the house...used the
garage entrance which has only 3 steps instead
of the front door.

He is very very emotional. He says that having
those tubes down his throat for 5 days that he
didn't know if he was dead or alive.

He says, laying with his head facing the ceiling and only seeing
shadows of people was terrifying for him.

This, of course, on top of his breaking down and
shedding tears for our beloved Miss Gypsy.
Oh how he loved her

Strange that I brought Miss Gypsy home on Feb 12th
which just happened to be the same day Feb 12th
that we adopted her from the ASPCA 15 years ago
when no one wanted her. She had been returned to
the ASPCA twice before we found her.

He is in more pain then I'd like to see. The staples
and stitches seem to go on forever and even the
slightest movement is very difficult for him.
He has lost about 10 pounds and Lord only knows
a cook I am not !!!

I had to fight the hospital to approve a nurse and
therapist to come to the house. They told me the new
Obamacare cuts had a part in their reluctance to
approve any home visits.

However...I pushed on and on and finally got the approval.
(they didn't know that I fly a pink broom !!!)

The nurse should be coming tomorrow and we
will see what she has to say. The therapist
is also expected.

I took all your colorful and cheerful cards and
balloons and hung them on the blinds to welcome
him home. He was and is quite touched by all
the caring, prayers, and good wishes expressed by all of you.

He cannot drive until his follow-up which is on Feb 20th
a week from now. He feels beaten down and tired which
of course is expected. I'll be a pain in the butt to change that.
I'll do my best...and let God do the rest.

So...he's home...sleeping in his own bed, using his
own bathroom and just trying to find a position to
get comfortable.

I trust tomorrow will be a better day.

I'll keep you updated on his progress as often as I can

Bless you all
Toni

Welcome home, Vinnie! I expect things will start improving at a faster pace. Glad to hear you're on the mend!

Vinny,
Shiiaattt! It's about time you got your a$$ home. Now get out there and wrench that Moostang!!

Besides, if you have been able to survive Toni's cooking, you could easily survive a visit to any surgery table.

Oh and welcome home.

Craig

Hey--Great news! I am not a Bible carrying pulpit thumper but I gotta kind of say that sometimes group prayers seem to be heard. Don't wear yourself out taking care of him---spend some of that old moldy money he has rat holed in the closet (from the old days) and hire some help for a while. Take care.

I was just thinking about Vince's screen name and all the scar contests he'll win now :thu

Glad he's home and hope his progress continues. Looking forward to seeing you all at Knott's or before.

Pat

Glad to hear UV is on the road to recovery. Maybe Toni can get some much deserved rest!!
