We've been talking about this story at work for a week or so now. This has got to be the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time. I think the only thing it would take for this to change is for someone to go down there, slap her in the face, and jog away. I know if I was the officer, I would surely wouldn't break a walk.

I was reading the comment by a police officer to the article which I hadn't thought of before--the safety of the police officer. His take--to reduce injury/death to police officers, the on-foot chase should not be continued by an officer alone or should be discontinued if the officer loses sight of the suspect. In neither instances, is the search called off, just delayed until additional officers are on the scene. In this case, it sounded like a police force that needed additional training and a mayor who could not handle a multi-faceted problem.
