best electric fan?

I have right now, a 16" pusher fan on a T-stat and a mechanical "flex" fan. The 429 would get hot (up to 240 once) in 100 degree weather in traffic. When it goes back together it will be a 502. Not sure that is going to make much more heat. I have an Edelbrock high flow water pump and 15% faster rpm on water pump (from pulley size). Driving at pretty much any speed it doesn't get hot, Just sitting still.
So I think I need better flow. I can't use a puller electric fan. There is not enough room. The mechanical fan is barely able to fit. As it is, the fan is bolted direct to the water pump pulley and blades barely clear crank pulley as well as being right up against the radiator. I do have a shroud too. Pictures below are before water pump and shroud but give you an idea of the tight quarters

High flow waterpump isn't neccessary but a bigger radiator is a must. See enginefactory site :http://www.enginefactory.com/
You need a sucker....puller electric fan with shroud as it more efficiency.
How you can do this .....I don't know.Sorry

Yes a puller or a sucker fan is better but that ain't happening! I don't think the radiator is the issue either. It keeps things cool when I am moving so it seams like an air flow issue. I'm thinking maybe a better mechanical fan and a bigger pusher fan with more flow. But it could be an issue with getting the air out from the hood when not moving. The asphalt is hot and with no air moving under the car the hot air can't flow out from under the engine... the engine is huge and tight fit. Might need louvers in the hood?
 
From the pictures, it is had to tell how far the fan is off the radiator, but we will assume you know your way around shrouds and fan placements! I have heard nothing but horror stories about he flex fans and their ability to keep hot engines cool. Most go with a fixed blade fan on a clutch, but maybe no room for a clutch on this setup. But the fixed blade would perform better. Is there something blocking the front of the radiator? Possibly an oil cooler?

No, no oil cooler. I used to have a trans cooler in the grille but it was off to the side. I do have the 67 Shelby inboard headlights though. But they are pretty small. The lower valance is a Shelby R type thing (Eleanor) so it's open and no bumper.
The fan is roughly an inch away from the radiator. The fan was closer at the bottom. The fan was "in" the shroud. The new motor mounts will move the engine back about an inch and should put the fan out of the shroud so I can use a spacer to get it centered to the opening better. The flex fan I have is aluminum. Maybe not really a "flex" fan in the true sense of the word but for sure no room for a clutch fan.

the trans cooler was behind the Shelby emblem on the passenger side. Lines went into rad first then to cooler. The oil filters where the battery was used to be plumed into the trans cooler lines to add some fluid and filter capacity. It will not have a trans cooler anymore. The TKO 600 5 speed will not be a heat source like the C6 was! That alone should help!
you will also notice in that last pic, the holes I drilled into the cowl to let heat out. That was done many years ago and it helped.
 
Craig, have you looked at the derale rigid race fan with six blades? I have that fan and it really pulls air thru at idle rpm. Just don't know if it will fit between your radiator and water pump. Summit sells them.

I will just not have room between the water pump and radiator. Dual fans would be most likely to work as the shallowest pint would be in the center but there is just no room in there! Car is all apart at the moment so I can take any pics but the fan is about an inch from the rad. The new motor mounts will gain me another inch or so, maybe as much as an inch and a half but that means the electric fan in the water pump pulley area would have to be 2" or less thick.
 
maybe time for some fancy plumbing and an remote electric Meziere pump. That will create room for the fans!
 
Pfffft. Just do some body work and extend your front section forward about 8-10 inches and you'll have all the room you need for a fan. You just got to think out of the box, my man.

OR I could set the engine back like this...

If you remove the mechanical fan would you gain any room for some nice electrics? When I was researching this issue the v6 contour was by far the best and thinnest option

the current fan is flat on the front side and the blades bend to the backside. Actually the bolt heads and the center of the water pump stick out further than the fan does. How thin was the Contour fan, do you recall?
