07 Mustang Identifies as a 2012...

Well the Road Runner has been back in Texas for a bit now. My youngest son's Bobcat project is on hold (he is a new daddy so no time), and a few other projects are just on the back burner. So how about a thread on rebuilding a 2007 Mustang?
I posted about a year ago that the 4.0 blew up. I updated that thread tonight with pics of the fatality. I haven't touched it in a year and it's time to get it back on the road.
Because I am not known for making good decisions, I bought a wrecked 2012 Mustang. And most would think, "oh cool, Coyote swap" but no. It's a 3.7 six speed car I got for $1300
Thought process is the 4.0 is toast, would need a junkyard motor and probably want to change chains at least before going back in. I actually went to look at Atlanta Steve's 08 GT (some of the old timers might remember him). Trans went out so he was going to make me a deal but it was an auto. I really want a manual. The 11's and up use 2010 GT brakes and suspension, even have an 8.8 rear over the 7.5 in my 07. The six speed is an MT82 and used in the new Mustangs. One of my son's has a 2020 5.0 with the MT82 and it's a nice trans. So I get a 3.7 with 305hp (almost as much as a 3V 4.6, six speed, 8.8, bigger brakes and sway bars and the 11 and up 3.7 are supposed to get over 30mpg! While I will probably ultimately spend more than just fixing the 4.0 and I will for sure have to do a lot more work, I will have a unique car that is fun to drive. And if I am honest I just like to work on stuff!
So here it is, 2012 3.7 six speed. I am going to swap EVERYTHING from K member, rear end, engine and trans of course but also the dash and console and most likely the entire wiring harness. The car is mashed pretty good but it runs and drives, no check engine light and everything works (except a couple of the lights! lol

My nephew drives a 2012 3.7 manual car, it moves right along. He added an aggressive cat-back system and actually had a pretty good sound to it now.

my 07 already has a cat back Pypes dual exhaust so I hope I can retain that.
 
That's quite a project. It would probably take me 10 years to do all that.

It might take me a while also but it's good therapy for me. or I just like to punish myself. not sure which it is!
 
I had a 2011 3.7L 6-Spd ... loved that car !! FYI ... the 8.8 has 31 Spline Axles too.

Had the stock 2.73 gears in mine but still could get heathy rubber out of 2nd and 3rd gears.

I put 400 miles a week on my cars and that thing averaged 30.42 MPG over 129k miles ... besting the prior 2004 3.9L 5-Spd (under 200 HP and a ton lighter) that averaged 26.07 MPG's.

Currently driving an 2021 2.3L 6-Spd Ecoboost and drove a 2016 for 100k miles before it. The turbo 4 has more pull in the lower end of the RPM range, but not on the upper end like the 3.7L had, nor does it get as good of MPG's (2016 averaged 29.35).

Could have gotten a 3.7L in that 2016 ... kinda wish I had !!

good to know. I have a set of 3.73 gears I can put in. I think the code says it has a 3.31 so I may leave it.
 
The 3.31 gears were std. on the V6 Performance Pkg. and a stand-alone option on all V6 coupes, so very possible.

First gear on the MT-82 is so low that it had plenty of go with the 2.73's, so you should be happy with the 3.31's.

I did an Excell Spread Sheet comparing gear ratios & speeds at various RPM's in all gears (see attached).

2011 V6 w/ 2.73's is like having 3.91 gears in a classic Mustang (wide-ratio toploader 225/60-15 tires) ... 3.31's with the MT-82 1st gear is like having 4.75 gears in a classic.
