WANTED 5/8-24 UNEF BOLT

B67FSTB

The NorCal dude from Belgium
Looking for a bolt : 5/8-24 UNEF 1/2 inch long.
Need it to make/fabricate a "vented filler plug" for my steeringbox.
Thx all

Can find a couple of adapters to 5/8-24, but couldn't find via Google a bolt with that ultra-fine thread. Found nuts, though...

You could ask these guys if they have them

Could you re tap it to something more readily available?

To re tap I also need a tap cussion.
I have sent them a email with the request Tony.
Thx guys.

I made a quick attempt at finding a source and was amazed at how difficult it appears to be. Plan to go at it again today. I found all kinds of machine tools for making such thread but not a single fastener. Struck me as very weird you can make the hole and thread it but not find something to screw into it!

Yeah found the same. Might be easier to buy a scrapped steering box. I assume they used the same box in other cars?

yeah, same here

I give up. Buy a length of 5/8 rod, a 5/8-24 die and make your own. Drill a 3/8" hole down through the head of a standard 5/8" bolt, then cut the hex head off and weld it on the threaded rod through the hole you drilled. Instant 5/8-24 bolt. Oh, then you'd have to drill a vent hole back down through the top again for your purpose.

Pain in the butt!

Another idea would be to 3D print one. For use as a vent plug this could work.

There has to be a scrapped box somewhere.

I wonder if an old escort or Bedford van might have one? Should be a few of these around in the UK.
