66 6 cyl carb

Local fellow having trouble with a rebuilt 66 6 cyl. carb. Been thru 4 carbs....all rebuilt. All run sometimes, and then not. Problem is the transition from cruise to accelerate. The car stumbles most of the time but does run good other than that. Complete new fuel system, cap vented, rebuilt car. I thought other problems but he is convinced it is carb issues. Any GOOD source for a new carb.....

According to the owner.....it has to be the carb. Soooooo, I am mainly looking for a source of NEW carb for it. After 3-4 rebuilt carbs, I might look elsewhere too but.........not mine.

It's been forever (I was in high school then) but my first car was a '67 six cylinder. It had a huge stumble on transition. Rebuilt carb numerous times (Hi Duane) on the advice of the local guru, no change. I eventually changed the distributor to a duraspark unit to get the electronic ignition - fixed. Worn advance was the issue.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but those carbs are pretty bullet proof & easy to build. It may take him a while to learn that. I can add this: a local 6 cyl Falcon guy has had bad luck with Pony Carbs, but those were bad out of the box.

Yes, I have heard so much bad about pony carbs plus he said they wanted almost $500. This guy is a local Mustang rebuilder and has done a ton of cars. Just got stuck on this one car problem. I have suggested a kit I found from Macs Auto parts...a Ford place... plus mentioned if it could be some other item. He is dead set against it being anything else so he is shopping. He has dealt with a carb shop in Jacksonville I believe. Second carb and 4th return with no change. First carb, car actually stalled out on accel, the rest have just stumbled. My thoughts are it is time to step back and look at the big picture...........

Does the car continue to hesitate when accelerating, or does it only happen briefly? If the former, maybe the fuel lines are clogged, and you're not getting enough fuel? There is a known problem with vapor lock with the 1100 carbs as well.

Any temp, new tank, lines, filters, and gas. New cap and drove with cap off. Seems to be just during the transition from cruise to accelerate.

Midlife, ...This is Don's latest Vert he had at the show in Oct.
