68 Wiring harness????????????

Hey all,

I want to redo the wiring on my 68 mustang. I see that painless has a 67/68 specific kit thats 650+. Thats a lot more than my budget is going to allow. What are my options for a new updated wiring harness? has anyone used the 200 dollar ones on ebay? I've been considering going with one of those. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Jeremy

What are you looking for in a harness? If stock is what you need, talk to Midlife on here. He refurbishes stock ones and does a great job for a real fair price. If wanting to add a bunch of after market power items, painless is the best.

The Painful Harnesses, IMHO, are a rip-off. For $650, you get a bunch of wires (albeit labeled quite nicely), but you're on your own for routing, connecting, and ensuring things work with Ford connectors. Did you know that all of the aftermarket harnesses use GM connectors? Some of the wiring is incompatible with the Ford grounding system, and you'll need to run extra lines just to ground the tailights, for example. You'll also have to splice into all of the Ford-specific connectors. If you're competent in soldering or crimping, go for it; if you have any doubts about electricity, I recommend sticking with the tried and true Ford system.

As Pete said, if you're going very modified, the aftermarket stuff is probably the best route.
