70 firewall insulation

While messing around with my pedal hanger I've found that my mach has two different types of insulation. There is the thick stuff on the lower firewall that has a rubbery facing (molded). This is the stuff that is available in reproduction. Above the firewall at the cowl is a different section that has a lighter insulation with a black thin plastic facing. This lighter insulation is falling apart big time and making a huge mess on my floorboards. For those that have had their 69/70 car apart, did you find two separate insulation types?? I don't recall finding the cowl insulation on my 70 fastback and wonder if it had already been removed. My car has A/C and is Metuchen built. Just curious.
 
Just one type in mine. The thicker, rubber faced stuff that was also deteriorating.

I replaced it with the same stuff - just new repop.
