70 Mach 1..

..anything specific I should know about them? I assume to look for the same things as any classic mustang.. cowl vents, floors, etc. Anything else?

I'm about to go check this mustang out http://collegestation.craigslist.org/ct ... 24380.html and look it over, check the usual places for rust, actually get under the thing with a flashlight and check every inch top to bottom. Get the VIN, do some checking etc on the car.

That looks like a fairly good deal! Make sure to look it over well. Check the front torque boxes, bring some water to dump in the cowl. See if he will let you pull the carpet back to see the floors from the inside. Check to see if the motor turns over. Sometimes good deals are too good to be true....

Sorry Kat, I bought it this morning for 3K. It'll make a good track car.

Sorry I did look at the pic's you posted in the other thread. :puk

Unless your looking to get into a money pit, RUN from this one.
From just the price alone, You could spend that money on your car and have some left over and end up with a nice ride.
The 70 Mach is pricey to restore and that one will take alot.
Keep looking for a better coupe body for your project and save your money.

Plan on at least $6k just for the engine. It's out and torn down, so think that you'll have to rebuild it completely. Another $2k for rust repairs and body work. Then interior and paint for another $3-6k minimum.

Personally, I think you're already ahead with Gertie.

You know what you have right now~ I'd have to say quit looking unless just for talk sakes. I still look, but have no intentions of buying anything!! Besides there's no money to be made here off of our stangs. It's just a personal journey

I agree with the above comments, but must also say that there is a big difference in size between a 65/66 body and a 69/70. You sure you want a car that big after spending so much time on Gertie?

So, I've had a rough and $hitty 3 weeks and just lost a long-time employee today...iIt's all rolling down hill.

So I'll say it. You just got a nice, new/late model car REPOSSESSED and you're out looking at frigg'in 1970 Mustangs? Time for a reality check. If the daily driver is at the point of being repo-ed and you're in the financial situation of doing title loans, shouldn't you sell the dead car in the garage for the money to pay for the new car that does run and drive? WTF?

OK, flame away... But sweet Jesus!

Since when is a 1992 Lexus a new or nice car? Have you SEEN this thing?? LOL And it was repo'd because they screwed up. Not because we didn't/couldn't afford pay the loan we took out on the TITLE. We bought and paid cash for Lexus so there is no bank loan. Our financial situation 6 months ago when we got the loan was WAY different than it is now. For starters we had a mortgage of a $2000 on a house that was falling apart and everything was breaking like the A/C and roof leaking. Plus the bills to keep a 2500sqft house going. We don't have that house anymore. We moved into a rental that is half the price & half the upkeep. My husband got a promotion and raise a few months ago. Not to mention the VA check my husband gets for being 20% disabled (which will probably increase another 20% - 10% for his knee and 10% because the shrink put him on meds for PTSD, Anxiety, & Depression). Or the extra $1000 my husband gets from his GI Bill for going to college full time which he just started this semester. Or the $10,000 we're getting next week from income tax return, pell grant refund (since GI Bill covers his college 100%), and his yearly bonus from his job.

Thank you for you concern, but you act as if we're living on ramen noodles and can't afford toilet paper to wipe our asses with. LOL We are fine $ wise these days.

I haven't spent any large amount of time or money on Gert. The only thing I've done was put the front and rear bumpers on (that came with her when I bought her) and removed her engine. Oh and put on new springs. I'd say actual time spent on her... 1 day total, maybe 2. :shrug The only money I've spent on her is.. new springs, new sway bar that still haven't installed, and the dash cluster. So like $250-300? She's pretty much the same as the day I got her.

To clarify Craigs comment, what i think he meant was - Are you aware of the size difference between Gert and the Mach 1.
They are a huge car comparatively, with NO rear vision.
They are a pig to park and you cant see anything behind you when driving.
As you are used to Gert, you should drive a Mach 1 before you consider buying one.

Sounds like you are talking about a '71, not a '70 :shrug

Everyone knows the 70's are giant overweight pigs. Only the Boss 302's are worth anything.

:roll

Yes I agree the 71+ are the biggest pigs. OK 69-70 are mini pigs. I'm just saying if I was you I'd stay in the 65-66 or 67-68 size. Then again if your butt is real big and you need the extra support and room for it.

Just sayin...... :shrug Oh and happy Turdsday :yah

Sounds like ya'll are doing well! After you get the titles back on the Lexus and the mustang (back meaning in your possession) have some fun car shopping.
