i tried to google some carb tune places in like rancho cordova area or like north highlands but none have reviews, anyone familiar of any carb tunners and do they put cars on dyno to tune? how do you guys pick a good tune place?

First, welcome to the Fix.

Second, what are you looking to do with the car, cruise, drag, open track, or.............? Generally, you should look for someone old school with experience in that type of use you expect to put your car to (the freshly minted auto techs generally have little to no experience with things as primitive as carbs).

Third, to help zero in on the right person, tell us a little about your car and its current set up and let us know whether you expect to wrench on it yourself or not.

Fourth, even if you have no desire to actually try and set up your carb(s) yourself, a basic understanding of how a carb works might be of value to you. I suggest picking up a copy of somehting like the Holley Carburetor Handbook, Selection, Tunign & Repair by Mike Urich [HP Books, 1980]. Generally, you can find this and other reference books at your better equipped Speed Shops and Mustang Parts Houses.

I look for a good spot under a shade tree.....lol Really, I do most all of it myself.

It is easy to do and as stated, learning a bit about it helps. By having a working knowledge, you can better recognize and describe the problem plus knowing what the guy is doing to fix it.

Welcome to StangFix.

As others have stated, if you post the issues you are experiencing, we may be able to help you w/o you incurring some costs.

IIRC, SVS has their own chassis dyno and a prior member won a 1 hr session form them some time ago. It's not only for Volvo's.

Good luck, let is know if you need some hands-on assistance. I'm in West Sac.

im familiar with parrish automotive, but they dont do carbs, however, they suggested the volvo place on fulton, but they charge around $500 i think?? but from what he said they do a good job.

when im driving at any speed, but as i get to 2-3k rpms it feels like the carb is stuttering a bit, its one of those summit carburators, but from reading up on it they use holley parts mostly, i might be wrong, but i think thats why i bought it. i also replaced points stock distributor with msd electronic one. I dont have much info on carbs, its one of those things you either feel comfortable with or not. I might swing by mustang stores and see if they can tune for me or suggest a good place for carb tune, but it might be smarter to get someone to tune is than for me to mess it up more.

If your engine is not too wild and you are looking for a smooth running street carb that is essentially plug and play, consider the Holley Street Avenger 670. .......about $375.........

Until we see pics of your car, none of us will believe you have a carb problem. Remember

:wop

I replaced my Holley with a Summit carb last year and have been happy with it, did nothing to it except open the box and install it. The parts (jets, etc) are Holley-replacement based. How are your plugs/wires/cap? Is the fuel filter clean? The SVS tech-time can be expensive from what I've heard.

I was quite happy with my Summitt carb right out of the box as well.

Are you sure you don't have a timing issue? If your total timing is beyond 35 degrees it will act as described.
