It is shift on the fly. But I agree with cutting him some slack and not screwing up his life, hopefully he learned a lesson.

Good point... even my 93 Ranger has auto hubs. Maybe they converted them to manual hubs? Personally, I like not having to get out in a foot of snow to lock the hubs in! I have heard the auto hubs are not as durable as the manual hubs, though.
