Body shop qoute 12-20 Updated with hole patched

So i got a qoute from a local restoration shot to fix a hole thats on the top driver side of my window frame and A pillar. The guy said its approximately 3 days worth of work. This seem like an accurate estimate. If im gonna have to spend that kind of money on it, im just gonna but hobert welder and do it myself.

Body shop qoute

You mean three days as in 24 billable labor hours? I can't see your pic well but that seems like alot of time. So you take 24 hours and multiply that by 60/70/80 bucks an hour plus materials....use that money to buy a welder and do it yourself. If the pillar is rusty I can only assume your going to need rust repair in alot of other areas as well

Re: Body shop qoute

this is the last rusted area on the car. Took care of everything else over the past year. Just need to finish this so I can put the window in then interior.

So did a shop do the rest of the rust repair? If so u probably already have an insane amount into
It so what's a little more?

Do you plan on restoring any cars in the future? If so buy a welder and do this repair yourself. If not then just have the shop finish it

Re: Body shop qoute

Like Pat said, 3 days seems like a lot from what we can see in the picture. It looks like they will have to fabricate a patch, but I think any professional could tackle that in a day's work. Just strictly my amateur opinion though. Good luck!

Re: Body shop qoute

Fixing the hole is easy... I doubt a resto shop is quoting 3 days just to cut and weld a patch in. Is there more damage along the length of the pillar that is being taken care of? With a hole that size, I'd expect there is more to it than just that hole in the picture.

Re: Body shop qoute

I'm not sure what 3 days means, but I see a helluva lot of work there. True, a well qualified body man could do it in a day.

By the time it's said and done, they'll be into the horizontal surface of the roof and no doubt have to remove the lead where the roof meets the pillar.

What kind of dollars are they talkin?

Re: Body shop qoute

3 days at almost $100 an hr. So 3 days would be $2400. Bought the car for 3500 and have about 3500 into it

LOL....... Body rate on average is 40-60 dollars and hour at normal body shops. Speciallty places charge whatever they want.

I think they gave you the we don't want to work on it price. I'd suggest you keep looking. 3 to 4 hundred sounds fair to me.

Re: Body shop qoute

that area fine. There wasnt major rust on most of the car. Just this particular spot where I guess water was able to seep in and just sit. Sucks

Re: Body shop qoute

I agree with Sluggo that the quote they gave you was the "we don't really want to do it but if you bend over and take it we will do it" quote.

Re: Body shop qoute

I got in touch with a different shop (a guy thats known for mustangs) by my house. I emailed the guy a picture of the problem area and waiting for him to get back to me.

Re: Body shop qoute

Jump on it. That's pretty fair maybe even a little light.

+1...my local buddy that runs a restoration shop charges about $60 / hour. Ask me how I know :roll

I got a quote one time for some floor pans from another local place and they were 2 1/2 X's what my buddy quoted. I guess they thought I looked like a sucker or just really didn't have time to deal with it but would make time if the price was right.
