OK I am reflairing some brake lines..The lines that you get when you buy one have rolled ends..Now when I cut oe end to make the line shorter I reflair the end but it does not look rolled..It looks flaired out..Is that OK. I will post a few pictures of a new rolled end and A picture of the ones I have flaired..

I rented the flaring tool kit from NAPA for $100 but they refund in full when you return it. It works great, just look up instructions online as the ones that come with it are short and poor.

It's a 2 step process, first with an adapter that knurls the line, then w/o the adapter to push it in. After the knurl it looks like a mushroom before you flare it. Here's a bad pic of the adapter. You need to tighten the clamp a lot to make sure the line doesn't slide when you're knurling and flaring, it's only supposed to stick up 1/8" above the flat face of the clamp and leave it in the same place when you do the 2nd step of flaring. I ruined a few lines and then Steve (SellersRodShop) told me that it was sliding and to tighten it with wrenches.

I was really impressed with the ease of bending with NAPA's new polymer lines, not all NAPA's carry them though. I did a post on it here:

Thank you very much.. I am going to have to do a few of them over...I am glad I asked the ? here..I would of hated to put everything together with just the single flair and have every flair leak..Again thank you.

Double flare as mentioned and practice. The biggest thing you'll face is a crooked flare due to the line not being straight or the tool cocking sideways when you're tightening. Practice and practice some more.

When doing my brake work on my old Mach 1, I ended up buying a Mastercool hydrualic flaring tool. I tried to use cheaper tools and wish I had bought it a lot earlier. It did one heck of a job. Unfortunately it was $300. I would let it go for $200 plus shipping.

if you still have that when i get paid on these two harleys, i may be interested.

on another note to the OP, when you make the second bend for the double flare, don't mash it down all the way, you want to leave it a little "ballooned". then, when you do the final assembly, it will sandwich down in the fitting & seal really well.

OK...Before I redue all the lines has anyone tried to just single flair the line that had no issues wiith it leaking? Looking at the single flair with the nut looks like it fits good..Anyway Thanks..

I had a few that looked like single flairs when trying to use a cheap flaring tool from Harbor Freight. They leaked.
