Burned out on car shows

No more shows !!!
It finally hit me yesterday while at my last planned car show that I am totally burned out spit shinning and parading around in these vintage beasts. As my daughter said to me last night, "so can I finally take Red out and get her dirty out in the countryside?"

I said "go girl".

Next year, maybe 4-5 shows. It would probably help if I reduced my metal family inventory a little.

Dedicating the rest of the fall and winter into getting Shag up and running.

Best thing I did with my last '66 in Az. was decide to start driving it more and not worrying about how dirty some areas got. We showed it for a year......9 trophies......gallons of cleaning supplies.......very few miles enjoyed. Having a show car is nice, but any more, I prefer to have a driver and have fun. It is different for each individual based on what you want from the hobby. Some like driving 30 miles a month and cleaning it in the garage.

I only did 1 car show this year, But I drive mine every chance I get.

It definitely depends on what you want. I had a guy offer to paint my car last spring but I like it as a driver for now. I don't have to go crazy over every rock chip.

I gave up on shows awhile back. I'm going to one this weekend only because it benefits Bob V's (Cloney) daughter who graduates HS this year. The car sure won't be spotless and the cracks and chips from the track will surely keep most from looking. It will be fun hanging out with a couple well know 70's, one being :gobp

Never have cared about winning trophy's, not that mine deserves one anyway!

Maybe if I had a banner that read "Unable to pass Cruzers"

And it took you how many years to figure this out :ide I think I'm averaging about 1 every 3-5 years these days :kaid

I've never had a desire to "show" my car. The only reason that I'll ever enter a show is to get a premium parking spot so I can park closer to the action. I enjoy looking at others cars, but I have no desire to prep my car for anyone else to look at mine. I fire up the shop vac a couple times a year and suck all of the dirt and cig. ashes out of the car and then I'll wash the car only when it gets really dirty. Anyone who was at MBBII bore witness to my general lack of interet in keeping the car "clean".

I go for the parking spot.

Only did all the big cleaning for the MCA Nationals we been to (Park City and Concord).

Nothing against shows or the people who enter them (to each his own),but I have never entered one and probably never will. The main reason is I don't want/can't commit to sitting in one spot all day.

Fixed it for you, Dave.

The best show I have ever been too is the one in the paddock at open track events. It's like, vintage iron on display and play. You get to see, hear and ride in em. Some can even go over the speed limit.

I hear ya Craig, sitting in a lawn chair isn't as much fun as sitting in a racing seat is it?

John,
You are so right. I need to simplify my vintage car life. Need to get Shag up and running and run the crap out of it. Let it collect all the dirt and grime it wants.

Some other things I like about the paddock show is:

Parade laps at lunch time ..... :run

Track rides in fast cars (for those who don't drive) ..... :gobp

Pit stalls with BBQ's ..... :sb

The judging is called tech ..... :rulez

You get to see blowd up stuff ..... :bike

There are no awards ..... :dumas

They drink BEER at the end of the day ..... :kaid

Has anyone been to a cars & coffee event? I really like the idea of these types of gatherings. Just a bunch of car people getting together for a couple hours on a Sat morning, no judging, no trophies, just meeting up with car people. I have not been to one yet, but I like the concept. Get up early on Sat, spend a couple hours checking out some cool rides and be home in time to enjoy your day. Check out the slide show
