There is a resurant on Carmel Valley Rd. called Baja Cantina. The owner, Pat, is a friend of ours and he puts on a show every Thurs. night. Just cars, more cars, BBQ on the lawn and BEER from the bar. Lot's of fun.

Pat has a bunch of cars and is a true gearhead. One of them is a vintage racer that he runs in the Historics races at Laguna Seca each year.

Oh Yea! ... he has free coffe by the BBQ too.

Has anyone been to a cars & coffee event? I really like the idea of these types of gatherings. Just a bunch of car people getting together for a couple hours on a Sat morning, no judging, no trophies, just meeting up with car people. I have not been to one yet, but I like the concept. Get up early on Sat, spend a couple hours checking out some cool rides and be home in time to enjoy your day. Check out the slide show

Stan (Aslan) has floated a similar idea for Nor Cal over on VMF but specific dates and locations have yet to be finalized. On a slightly different approach, out here in Silicon Valley we have weekly cruise-ins at the Boston Market on El Camino Real in Santa Clara on Wednesday evenings through mid November. All sorts of cars from rat rods, street rods, muscle cars, Mustangs, etc., show up, sometimes in excess of 200 cars. Never the same mix two weeks in a row. More recently, a local guy with a vintage Mustang convertible and a vintage Firebird 455 has organized a once a month cruise-in on North Santa Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos for the second Thursday in the month. Again, anything goes and there is usually a good mix of vintage cars. He calls it "The Cool Car Club of Los Gatos/Saratoga". The format for each of these is: show up when you want, hang for as long as you want, pick up some food (or not) and leave when you want. In my experience these cruise-ins last a couple of hours at most. Usually three of my local Mustang buddies show up to this one so there is a respectable showing of Mustangs. Since I drive my Mustang all the time (not quite a daily driver) I bring it in whatever condition (dirt, bugs, etc) it is in without worrying about its display condition. Makes enjoying the car much easier!

They do that every first Sunday here, call it Caffeine and Octane. I used to show my car as a teenager (though, what I know now, I know that there was little "show worthy" about the car) but I've pretty much decided that I'll only ever "show" it at an event like this...One where any car is welcome, and you have a crazy mix of things to look at. No Trophys, no rules, no fees. Just have a good time.

Steve

One of the things I like about the coffee and cars thing was that they seemed to park similar cars together, Mustangs with Mustangs and vette's with Vettes, etc. Not that it was required, but its cool to see. The last show I was at there was a guy with a really nice '69 Mach 1. It was basically stock other than it being lowered and a set of Coys wheels. It was really sharp and he parked a few cars away from mine. When he pulled in I noticed his brake light was out. I thought I had an extra bulb in the glove box, but it was an interior bulb. We got to talking and had a pretty good time at the show.

Gotta get Criag on the track!!!... even if it's just as a passenger... :yikes :yikes :yikes

I'd be happy to be a passenger as soon as you spell my name correctly :voodoo

I will say that next year I'll concentrate on the fun meets such as Knotts, MITM, and hopefully MMB III. Otherwise maybe a couple coffee and car meets.

Yes Jeff, the Breakfast club meet would be a total kick.

For all the years I road motorcycles, we always had breakfast get togethers and then a ride somewhere. What ever fit each persons desire. Worked great. I never see it with local car clubs. Always afternoon/evening, music and door prizes, 50/50, best of....., and somebody in charge. I like what Phoenix has going with the Pavalions. Come park, look, eat, leave, repeat next month. Well known for a fun time and no rules......at least it was a couple years back.

We have a few local "cruise ins". 3rd and 4th Saturdays of the month from April through October at two different locations. It get's very boring as the same 10-70 cars show up each time. I'll go to the first couple of months worth of cruise in's, but then stop because it's the same old farts sitting around the same old cars that I've looked at 100 times.

We have a local "late model" Mustang club that's far less entertaining. They meet at the car wash every Saturday morning and talk about all the "twin turbo" mods that they have planned for their cars, but the only maintenance I've ever seen accomplished on their cars is mail order cat-back exhaust systems and LOT's of car wax and Armorall. They'll meet again every Sat. night at the local drive-in restaurant (old school... trays hung on the door and food delivered on roller skates) and then cruise through town for a couple hours intimidating other motorists with "weak street racing" (revving their engines at stoplights).

Uhmmmmm.......

Am I the only one that thinks we should see more pics of this ride?

Unless Gary has some new ones that he hasn't yet shared with me, some of us have seen all of the pics.

The Green is "bright". The first time I saw it I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. Now that the car is closer to completion, I wouldn't change the color... ever.... I think it looks badass.

There is a coffee & cars thing here too, every saturday morning. Too bad I don't drink coffee.

Well you could tell them you are with the Stanford University Band whose official breakfast is doughnuts and beer!!

Dave is correct, not much progress lately. However, some day I hope to have a car with which I can also become tired of showing...
