C4 or T5?

While 3.55 to 4.11 would be more ideal, and a great choice, I don't think your 3.00s are unreasonable. Mustangs came from the factory with T5s and 2.73 or 3.08 gearing for years.

I agree that there is nothing wrong with T5 / 3.0 combo for mild performance application.

Just stepping up to a T5 alone with the current 3.00 rear gears is practically the same as keeping the C4 and dropping 4.11 rear gears in but having the benefit of overdrive.

Rear gear is more of a matter of driving style than anything else in my opinion.

Our 67 has 3:00 stock gears and a T5. It is fine. I did put 3:53 gears in my 8" in the 65. I do like them.

You can put more HP to the 8" than it will take, but the T5 will likely break first, so you really don't need a 9" or 8.8. That being said, When I take the stock diff from the 67, I'll put my 8" from the 65 in it and a 9" in the 65. this due to the desire for more HP. I plan a stroker for it while the 289 is out and the car is being painted. The TKO will take the HP and I really would like more diff than the 8" will give me.

The 67 on the other hand is basically stock and the 8" will be fine. The T5 will not take the HP that the TKO will, therefore the major HP in my 65 and not Amber's 67.

I had a c4 then converted to an AOD, and now a t5. The t5 conversion was the best modification I have made to the car. I am running 2.8? Gears and they are to tall. I am in the process of cutting down an explorer 8.8. I will get limited slip, 3.73 gears, and rear disk brakes by using this setup. 9 inch is getting hard to find, and expensive when you do. 8.8 are More abundant in the newer cars and trucks. If you are not doing hard launches or big horse power numbers, that 8 inch with a gear swap would work for now. Good luck!
