Cam swap has begun

That was quick. And sounds great. Any info on the cam you put in? Maybe I missed it or perhaps you're keeping it a secret.

I could have done it quicker but had lots of interruptions. Maybe about 14 hours of actual working time.
Duration @ .050" Lift:242 Intake 257 Exhaust, Valve Lift: .531" intake .515" exhaust. LSA 108
Because I have such high static compression ratio I figured I could get away with a bit more duration. The lift is about the same as I had before.
 
well the new cam seems to be broke-in okay. The valve float is worse now however. I am guessing the lobe profile must be more aggressive because the valve float closer to 5K now. I'm going to have to swap on those heads pretty soon.

if I didn't have any other things going on!!! (like pulling a knocking 4.6) My son did most of the work, well pretty much all of it but still I can use him as an excuse...

after some time fiddling with the timing and carb I think I got it running half way decent. The bigger cam has so much longer duration that it needed more air to idle. Increasing the idle speed caused the butterfly's to be open beyond the transfer slot and idle rich. I didn't want to drill holes in the butterfly's so I opened the secondaries. That requires pulling the carb off. After some trial and error I was able to get it to idle at about 800 rpm in gear with almost 10 inches of mercury and the idle mixture screws at two turns out. Very tiny hesitation off idle. I think I need to play with the cam for the squirter. Looking in the carb when I wing it the fuel has a bit of a delay before it squirts. The linkage has no play or slop so the plastic cam must be flat at the start. Timing is set at 12 initial, and it's all in before 3000. I need a volunteer to sit in it and watch the tach but I used my camera on my phone and it looks like it's all in about 2800. I had to back off the vacuum advance. It would ping under light load. Two turns out on the vacuum can and it was perfect. I'm going to put some miles on it tomorrow. Then if weather holds out I am going to go ahead and swap the heads this weekend. I changed the oil from the break-in oil and it was clean. No metallic particles. I think it's safe to put on the aluminum heads with the stronger springs.
