Carbon fouled plugs

I was thinking the cap as well. Only way to tell week spark would be to pull a plug (and coil) and lay it on the intake and turn it over. Although you have nothing to compare it too. You may have to hold it in your hand while the SWMBO turns it over. If it stings like hell, sparks good....

LOL... my wife might actually enjoy zapping me with the car!

If nothing is working yet to solve the problem, I would say start over and test everything. Not just checking to see if it is set correct but remove, look over and reset the entire spark system. Check things out as if this were friends car and you had never seen it before. I find this helps when I get stuck on a problem. I am to familiar with things and tend to glance over what might be the problem.

I am with Dave here and running out of ideas.

When you do find the problem, patent it as the latest way to sequester Carbon. You'll be rich with royalties!

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Last night I removed and inspected the dist cap (checked out ok, no cracks); inspected all the plug wires (look undamaged); and reinstalled the carb (Recarbco did adjust the idle mixture when they tested the carb). Everything looked fine, however I did notice that the (+) connection to the electric choke wasn't making a firm connection, so I fixed that. It was too late to fire up the engine last night (without penalties from "the boss"), so I got up this morning and cranked it up. It seemed to be running smoother when I revved the engine, but I didn't have time to move cars around to give it a test drive.

Unfortunately, I have plans tonight, so I won't be able to touch the car again until Thurs. Hopefully, it's running better again.

Thanks again.

Sure, no problem. That's what internet solitaire is for. I figure Thursday should give me plenty of time to play a few hundred games......

Ok, I couldn't stand the waiting, so I told work that I had a lunch time doctor's appointment, and I went home to fire up the ride.

drum roll...

Success!!!

I guess between the adjustments Recarbco did for free on their test engine & flow bench and the repaired lose choke connection, my engine stumbling issues have been solved. However, I'd like to purchase a wide band fuel meter some day soon to really see how that carb is performing on my engine.

Of course, with one success comes another challenge. After taking the quick 3 block spin, I pulled back into the garage to discover the lower radiator hose leaking. Oh well, that's a simple fix I'll do this weekend.

Thanks again for the support. :tigg

Glad you figured it out Mike. I'll bet you a dollar the choke wasn't open before, causing the rich mixture. If it happens again, wire the choke open to eliminate that variable.
