Christmas Lights?

Who puts up Christmas lights?

I don't do too much and my wife doesn't like wasting the power, but I like to do something simple. It really makes it feel like the holidays.

I'll take some pics this weekend and post them. We can use this thread to show everyone your Christmas decorations.

To kick things off, I drove by CMayna's house and took this shot last night.

Though there are some extravagant displays around here, we live on one of those "Christmas Tree Lane" streets so nearly everyone has a lawn tree with lights.... fairly uniform but still nice. We get a fair amount of people driving by in the evenings and someone even has a horse drawn hay wagon loaded with passengers that cruises the neighborhood a couple of times each evening. At the municipal level, there is a large display known locally as "Christmas in the Park" that first got its start in the 1950's in front of a local business and eventually grew so large that it was given to a local non-profit that still does it each year in one of the downtown parks. http://www.christmasinthepark.com/

Rounding out the holiday celebration is an outdoor ice skating rink set up downtown for the season as well http://www.beachcalifornia.com/california/sanjose-iceskate-downtown.html

If it weren't for the wife, I wouldn't even have a tree. I get 20 containers down from the attic, I put 20 containers back in the attic. If it were up to me I'd have a 7' poster of a Christmas tree and hang it on the wall.

I could not have said it any better.

I've been in this house for 5 or 6 years and the lights I bought the first year are still in the box..... I put up a tree and an odd decoration here and there. You can tell there isnt a womans touch in this house. I think every woman that has been here has looked around and said the same thing.... "This house has potential"....

If the damn rain would quit, I'd get my lights up. I'm gettin tired of all this friggin moisture. Has the sun retired? :eek:mg

We don't have kids, so it's always been a little different for us. We both have had Grandparents die at Christmas and it's been more of a tribute/remembrance of lost ones. It's even more so this year after losing Jeb (our Lab) last Christmas.

+2

It seems a waste without small children around to really enjoy it. Yeah I know...Scrooge.

I guess I'm kind of a scrooge too. We don't do lights. We are probably the only dark house in the neighborhood.

I just don't get into Christmas. No kids yet(one on the way though), so we do a lot of charity instead.

I see your point about not wanting to bother (we don't have kids either), and my wife she says holiday lights are waste of energy and Christmas is a big marketing scam... bah humbug.

Personally, I like to come home to a cheerful, lighted house when I get home after dark, especially during these short winter days. Nothing over the top, just a simple string of white lights around the eve of the house. However, we won't be setting up a Christmas tree.

Craig (Tarafied), I like your Mustang ornaments!

Prepare for that to change when the little one gets a couple years old. Our 21 mo old has brought the fun back for me. Used to be another honey-do, this year it's great fun watching him each time something new goes up.

I personally don't care about decorations. However, I have 8 year old twins so not decorating is not an option for me.

We didn't have to be at my sister's house until 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving day. The boys woke me up at about 8 a.m. After making a pot of coffee we started and had everything put up by 1:30 p.m. They had only been bugging me to decorate for a couple of weeks at that point, LOL!

They have a 8 ft inflatable snow man. I came home tonight and it had a rip in it. I think some jack hole came along and vandelized it. What kind of jerk would do that...if I would've caught them in the act that would have gotten ugly. I wouldn't blow them away or anything but when I was done with them...they sure would have dirty shorts while I was calling the cops.

To top it off, I found out this morning that my remaining grand mother died last night.

Having trouble with the Christmas spirit this year. Especially since I have to drive to Waco and back on Thursday for the funeral. Three hours each way...that will be a fun day.
