CJ Pony Parts Gift Card Offer

Was just on CJ Pony Parts web site. They have an offer that ends today. For every $100 you spend up to $300 they will give you a gift card for $30. The order I just placed was for $302.55 so that gets me $90 in gift cards. That is like 30% off.

That is why I pay with my credit card. If I don't get my parts I just turn it over to Discover and get my money back.

I orderd 9 parts two weeks ago when they had the one day 30% off sale. All 9 items shipped and were recieved the next week.

just my 2 cents

I just got a conformation email from them. All parts ordered are in stock and will be shipped today.

It's only worth $90 if you place another order for at least that amount...

I hate gift cards. Everyone's using those for rebates, now, instead of cash. When you use them, you have to keep track of how much is left on them, and can never use the whole thing unless you encounter a friendly cashier who is willing to swipe your card for the last $5.61 and take the rest in cash or whatever.

I think they do this because they know you won't use all of it (if any). You just think you're getting a great deal.

You're right. I read somewhere (can't find it right now) the statistics of dollars left unspent on gift cards and it was really surprising how much never gets claimed. In the case of CJ's cards I suggest spending them as soon as received.

As far as CJ's itself goes, I obviously can't be positive of my assumptions since I don't own the company but can tell you that their latest specials and discounts certainly aren't giving them the profits necessary to sustain a business. I would more venture to say they are simply trying to generate higher levels of cash flow. Hopefully they can manage their way through any difficulties they may be having right now.

In the meantime, a savvy shopper can certainly take advantage provided they proceed cautiously. My advice would be to confirm items are in stock prior to purchase, number one. Number two, only buy on a credit card that offers you buyers protection. Lastly, follow-up immediately to confirm shipment as promised. I'm sure they are doing all they can to take care of their customers and wouldn't do anything shady but a company in possible financial difficulty cannot always control all their destiny.

The companies that offer gift card rebates get money from the credit card companies that supply the gift cards. The credit card companies get transaction fees from whoever swipes the car, as well as getting to keep the remainder of the unused card balance. It works very well for the credit card companies.

However, some states have laws that require businesses to cash out cards under a certain value. For instance, CA requires that businesses cash out a gift card balance under $10 if so asked.

I have never not once had a problem with a cashier not running the amount left on the card, and just telling me the balance due afterwards. I do split payments quite often..."here I'll give you this 20 and put the rest on my card" Usually I'll do that for budgeting purposes, because certain parts of our budget (groceries) are paid for with cash, while other parts (cleaning supplies) are paid for with the check card. So we do quick-math to figure out how much cash to give the cashier, and then tell her to put the rest on our check card.

Not once has anyone even acted like it's a pain. And if one DID act like it was a pain, I'd probably harass the hell out of him/her with pennies and coupons.
