I fixed the header leak and took my car for its first real drive around the block! :vic

For those who read the other thread, the shop owner called me upon reading my letter and we had a productive conversation and came to an agreement.

I was shooting for an old school choppy idle (even though I am using a roller cam), what do you think?

-Rory

Fast idle:
fast idle

Slow idle:
slow idle

It's a high lift hydraulic roller (just shy of .600) with a duration of just about 240 @ 0.050... The engine is a 10:1 393w using 6.2 rods...

The ramps are mild to introduce a little more overlap (about 70 degrees) than a typical roller cam of similar 0.050 duration. Yes, I know this is giving up some power... but given the gearing and converter this car has street tires don't stand a chance. It will never see a track - just a few cruise ins.

Cool... what's she sound like at 4500?

I'll let you know when I get there! I'll take video at the dyno run when I tune it... but don't hold your breath - it will be a while!

6.2 rods and only 393 cubes? Standard bore?

I tried to have some fun building this engine... no it is not standard bore - it is 0.030 over. But it does use 6.2 rods and very light pistons... not the average 393! I was wondering if anyone would catch that.

What rpm is the slow idle? It sounds bad a$$!

The slow idle is 875... the fast idle (with choke on while it was warming up) is 1200.

I like the sound of the fast idle. That slow idle sounds scary to me, like it's about to die. :lol

Hmm... I think the phrase "something to scare children and small animals" may have come up during discussions on possible cam choices! But seriously I do think I will need to bump up the slow idle speed... probably to about 900 or 950

I like that idea! I know for a fact mine scares small children and makes them cry. :lol

Your piston speed is going to be insane!

I'm gonna (yeah I know it's not a real word)[nb]for the grammar nazi[/nb] guess it makes all it's power below 5k.

[nb]There's nothing wrong with that one.[/nb] It's[nb]this is a contraction of it is[/nb] not a contraction, it's a possessive.

The piston speeds are high, but hey, that is what forged internals are for!

Grammar aside (it's is an exception to the possessive rule), the models for this engine show peak HP at 6K and peak torque at 4500. I never believe the simulation HP/TQ figures though (457 HP, 453 TQ); and to be honest even though I will put it on a dyno to tune it, the numbers do not mean anything to me. If the simulations are to be believed I will have over 400 ft/lbs of torque from 2500-5500.

I have 3.70s in the rear and an AOD with the wide ratio gear set from a 4R70W with a 3500 stall converter - my only goal is to fry street tires at will and have a choppy idle. Now I've got to mock up a jig to measure tire/wheel fitment so I can put some real tires on there.

As long as I don't see that abomination "prolly" being used you can still have your soup. :craz

That's very similar to the models on my engine. I'm running a T5 and a 3:00 trac-lok with 255/60/15 radial T/As.
My goal was pretty much the same as yours and this combo executes it to the letter.
