Considering a new project: seeking advice

Well, I went to the local steel shop with two broken aluminum box tubes in hand. They measured 3/8" x 7/8" x 41.5". No metal of any kind in 7/8" wide, but they did have steel in 1" wide. Since that is only 1/16" more on each side, I said I'll take two pieces and give it a try. Got home, drilled the holes with my new drill press and new drill bits (OMG...it is so nice to drill holes exactly and effortlessly!!). I put together the tent with the steel pieces and it folds up nicely without interference. For a bit over $10 (and another $500 for the drill press, shipping, and another $400 for drill bits), I was able to repair the pop-up tent.

It appears that EZ-up makes proprietary aluminum box tubing for their tents. I guess it is because they want you to buy a new one rather than fix it. I e-mailed the company with my problem, and I got an acknowledgment that the e-mail was received. That was over a week ago but no response. Just a warning to others who are considering EZ-Up tents.
