Daughter is getting maried.

guruatbol

Always on vacation!
Well, it is official now. My daughter is getting married. they ordered her ring. They are not sure what date. This klinda caught me off guard. I knew since Christmas they would be getting married, but I wasn't sure before then.

Anyway, I guess there will be no parts for the Mustangs for a while.

Later today, I will be thinning out the gun safe and selling some off to pay for this thing. I hope it doesn't come to selling the FB. I had to sell my Boss 351 in the 80s for a wedding that never happened. I really don't want to sell another one.

She wants to plan her wedding for a date right in the middle of my busy season! Sigh, I will not choose work over family, butdarn it, this thing will cost me more than just the price of the stuff she picks out, but another $2k or so because of taking time off.

The bright side is her other half starts a new job tomorrow. He needs a car. Maybe my wedding gift to them should be a car to him. I am sure I can find him a work truck. He is a A&P Mechanic and took a job welding.

Well, my brain hurts thinking about all this.

Or your gift to them could be a couple tickets to Vegas with a "hint, hint" note attached. Think of the savings... Congrats

Better yet, drive them yourself and don't come back until the knot is tied!

Congrats, I feel for you. My son just bought a ring for his girlfriend. I am glad I do not have to cough up the $$. I for sure think I would be giving them the budget and say anything over this is amount on you.

Now if she would just give me an estimated dollar amount. She wants the universe, but I am afraid all I can give her is a small meteor.

They need a second car for him to go to work with. I will look at a couple today. Maybe I can get a good Gremlin or Vega or something. Pintos are too expensive.

Mel

Congratulations and good luck. PM me with any goodies you may be selling. FTR, my in-laws did not pay for our wedding. We did things on a budget. We knew people that did various things for our "gifts". The food was donated as a gift. The flowers were donated (not her b, boq, bouq---thing she carried) and at the end of the ceremony were available for any guest to purchase from the florist. The reception was held at the church and we were there all of 30 minutes. I was not gonna have a long reception (had a honeymoon to get to) and even if we wanted it, wouldn't have been able to afford a big shindig. We literally did our whole wedding for less than $3000. I did not even want a rehearsal dinner but my parents insisted on it. I was opting for a bbq at the house but they wanted to do a dinner. To this day, my wife regrets none of it. I've known people to drop $25,000 on a daughter's wedding and have to pay for it for x years. At the end of the day, you have a married couple. I know this may not be the cool thing, but just offer $x and let 'em foot the rest. I'm not a mushy type of guy...believe it or not...but the good memories of the wedding didn't come from spending a lot of money. We did it our way, pretty much on our own, and it turned out great. We had one of the most massive downpours I've ever seen during the ceremony and laugh to this day about it. We left in Dad's '66 Caddy with him at the wheel. We walked out of the church 30 minutes after the ceremony, let off balloons, had bird seed poured down our clothes, and everybody had the night to do what they wanted. Unless you're careful, planning a wedding turns out to be about the guests and not about the couple. Good luck with whatever you do. I hope you don't have to sell anything but if you do...you know where to find me.

I will let you know. I am sure some of the guns will go. I was going to do it for Mustang parts anyway.

I agree with you. We did ours simple!

A couple of years ago, that's what we did. Actually, it was Sabrina's idea to do Vegas. Lot of fun!!!

One more thing Mel. Whatever china she registers for, here's a great tip. Jen just registered for "everyday" china but have her try this. Jen's pattern was a Mikasa? pattern. Before the wedding, we were at Hilton Head and she went into the Mikasa? outlet. Back in the bargain area, there were tons of plates, saucers, cups, etc in her pattern for literally pennies on the dollar. WTH??? We asked the lady there what was up and evidently a pallet had been dropped during shipment. They had to open the cases and if one piece was damaged that came as a "place setting", they had to discount/sell the individual pieces. I'm talking $45 plates for $3. We bought EVERY piece they had. None were damaged. They, for whatever reason, couldn't sell them individually if it came as a setting. When we got home she was gonna mark 'em off her registry...OH NO YOU AIN'T. I told her just to let everyone keep buying place settings as gifts. Long story short, after the wedding we called up Belks, arranged a return time, and headed over there with over 8 full place setting things...unopened. (We kept 8) Belks issued store credit to us for the retail price of all items returned. Pretty freakin' cool right there. We had more money in Belks credit than we had in the bank.

First, congrats Mel! Now, are you sure you want to hear that dollar amount??? My wife wanted a big wedding, as did her mother. I still don't think her father knows what it cost, and is much better off that way. Me, I didn't give a shart, and would of rather had the money to put toward our house. Of course, the groom has no say, as the bride has been planning this day since in the womb. Good luck my friend.

Mel, Mel, Mel.......I am so sorry to hear that you will soon be acquiring a son in law. Now it won't be so easy to boot him out of the house. Where did you go wrong?

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Only kidding my friend.

Just think, once she moves out, you will have that much more room to store Mustang parts.

Oh....Congrats

There are ways to hold the cost. We paid for our wedding(wife's father died, no money to speak of), and the grand total was ~$7k. Granted, this was 1991, but it was a small amount for what we did.

Included in that:
1 ct ring
Honeymoon (Fla Gulf Coast)
Flowers, etc for ceremony
Photographer, twenty photos included
Videographer, one tape mixed from the footage
Dress (closeout, discounted to $300)
Reception w/ full buffet & servers, bar & bartender (We provided the alcohol), dance floor, DJ

Understand that this was a Greek Wedding - ala' my Big Fat Greek Wedding, about 250 people (yes, I was the excino - in my wife's family I was the 'whiteboy'). They threw us out of the hotel at 2 am, reception started at 5 pm. Service itself was 65 minute long - during which neither of us said a word. Priest said a lot though - including lines about the marriage being blessed with "fruit of the womb". Yes, you read that right, and it's an actual quote.

The key for us was having the service on a Sunday - around here, most venues are not booked on Sunday night (and can only serve alcohol for private parties). Neither are the photogs, video guys, etc. So, they are willing to deal. We basically got the above reception for the cost of the meal - they threw in everything else (except tips). Also paid cash, they liked that.

We did tap a few favors - marrying into a greek family, for example, they owned a few liquor stores, so liquor was at cost (laws here prevent them giving it). They were friends with the florist, so we got that ~20% off. Other than that, just working the system. That, and I sent the wife out to negotiate - she's tight, and should have been a purchasing agent.

Well the new son-in-law is pretty cool. He can now visit and teach me to weld. Now I am a good grinder.

Anyway, just got the price for the dress. $650.00. Wow, the girl did good! Now she is talking eloping. Going to the SD temple and getting married and doing a reception later! Between her school schedule and my work season, she could get married in March and then have the reception when my season is over in September and then the money will be there.

We'll see. I can say that my daughter is using some common sense.

Oh, Craig, She has been out for a few years now. I still have some of her stuff in the garage though.

Mel

650 is exactly what my wife's dress cost. She couldn't have been happier. Some girls find them even cheaper, but I figured that with all her friends demanding 2000 dollar, designer made dresses, she did a good job.

Mel, sounds like she's got her head on straight! Congrats on both the happy news, and the well raised kids!

Sounds like a good plan. Especially with an LDS-Temple marriage, when SO many of the people "invited" can't (or don't) attend the actual ceremony, and only go to the Reception, there's no reason to have the Reception and the Wedding on the same day.

Congrats on the news!

We basically eloped, just less bs and head ache. Planning a big wedding with the MIL would have been a serious pita...maybe I should have figured it out from that hint alone huh?

The outlaws did throw a reception at a later date and just planning that was a head ache.

However, if you happen to have a .45 you wanted to sell, LOL!

You guys need to ask Sluggo about his daughters dress (he'll ask his wife), they ordered it off the internet for some ungodly LOW price and it was pretty nice, as far as wedding dresses go.

Randy probably has a better picture of it too

I have a .45LC revolver SW and a Colt Revolver also .45LC.

Those will be among the first to go. I never shoot them.

Mel

how much?
And for the record the wife and I got married in Vegas. Saved a boat load of money with that rout.
