Dave what do you think about the Can-Am type bikes?

My GF's dad has a side car on one of his bikes, I think he had 5 different bikes when we were there a couple weeks ago, he changes them more often than I change my underwear I think....

I'm glad someone asked these questions as it was my mind to do so.

IMHO the can-am's look dumb, I don't see the point. There is one around my house and I actually laugh whenever I see it as it just looks ridiculous. I don't get the idea of a trike either, there were three last week as part of a m/cycle cruise I saw. Is it just to say you are on a "motorcycle" although IMHO a true m/cycle has only two wheels, unless it had a sidecar and then it's ultra-cool.
I'm with you, if you have a Goldwing trike with a huge faring/windsheild and reverse and saddle bags and especially a trike pulling a trailer, why not just by a convertible car!?! I don't get it. I used to ride (before kids) and the fun part was the freedom you felt leaning into turns and the open air. I've never driven one of those trike monstrosities but it's got to feel like driving a golf cart.

My GF's mom has the gold wing trike, she rides it because she likes the bigger cruising bikes, but cant hold one up....

Her husband rides, a LOT. They take 2-3K mile trips on the bikes, a few times a year. She likes the riding part, just doesnt have the strength to save one if it starts to go. I guess riding with someone is a lot different than driving/following in a chase car.

I'm not saying I would do it, just that she does. My GF thinks its silly, but as long as she is into it, more power to her. I certainly envy the trips they take.

Here is the side car bike, he built this so he can ride in the winter and have more stability.

Wha???

CAN-AMs should only be sold with permanent handicap plates. I applaud those with such disabilities that get out on those things and ride. :thu

Anyone else who rides one should hang their head. :rant

I test rode a Can Am Spyder a couple years ago, it was different and OK, but something I will save for when I can't hold up a 2 wheeled bike. It's just a snowmobile with wheels. I do think it handled better (sportier) than a traditional trike with one front and 2 rear wheels.

As I am semi-new around here, just wondering what kind of bike everyone is riding?

I currently have a 2006 HD Roadglide for my long trips, and a 1999 Yamaha Roadstar that I built into a bobber 2 winters ago after it was gently wrecked and needed fixing. My roadglide has almost 40k on the odometer, and the Roadstar is pushing 84k.

Also a couple winters ago 2 buddies and I pooled our resources and a built a 1974 Honda CB750 chopper/bobber that we share and take turns riding for fun. As soon as we finished it one buddy and I rode it to NC to a rally there (Smokeout), about 500 miles each way. Hardtail, he's 56 and I am 54 I almost killed us but we made it there and back and the bike held together...lol.
