DFW: Tulip Time Rally

A fun drive in the country for your street car, with your friend, spouse, or SO (even the entire family if you have enough seat-belts) is waiting for you later this month. In addition to driving country roads, you get to practice simple rally timing, by driving the same route twice in exactly the same amount of time. Bring a stop-watch or an app that reads in minutes and seconds.

This is our annual Tulip Time Rally. We will use "tulip" graphic route instructions for the event, which will be held on Saturday, May 21.

We will be starting and ending at the Horny Toad Restaurant in the Stonehill Center in Denton, Texas, at the (northern) intersection of I-35 and Loop 288.

On-site registration opens at 10:00am at the Horny Toad. The first car will start at 11:31am. Cost is $25 per car (SCCA members get a $5 discount). There will be a mid-rally lunch break at the Horny Toad. Preregistration is at http://msreg.us/TTR16msr . Those who preregister will get the event rules via email prior to the rally. There will be a $5 late fee in Denton for those who do not preregister. The event is open to any street-legal vehicle, and there must be two or more people old enough to read aboard. Course following will be easy, with mileages at most instructions.

Four Mustangs entered our last rally, with one of them coming in tied for first overall!

Entries are coming in for the Tulip Time Rally. We have six different marques represented already: Corvette, Lexus, Mazda, Mini, Mustang, and Volkswagen.

The course has been defined, and the General Instructions written. We hope to do an official course pre-check soon, and I am working on a date for the safety inspection.

There is still time to enter at http://www.msreg.com/TTR16msr . This rally will be shorter in miles than usual, but will take about the same time, because there is a one-hour lunch break in the middle of the rally.

The long-range weather report predicts a temperature of 81 degrees on rally day.
