Different routing...

Have been looking for different pics. for exhaust tips. Stumbled onto this setup...never seen them under the tank. http://www.universalautosalesandclassiccars.com/66Mustang.htm

Also the transmission cooler looks to be in the front valance....hmmmm

So that is what you do with an old Pro Street Car. Put 22" wheels on it that are 11" wide.

I don't think I car for the exhaust tips that way. It would look rather weird from the side or back if the tips did not turn down. I do like the way the 69/70 Shelby's did the exhaust out the center.
 
Too close to what? The rear valance or the gas tank?

Notice the lowering blocks?

I don't understand the thought process'es of some car owners, but it must go somethig like this....

"I'm going to remove my shock towers and install a MII front suspension, install a "killer" motor, modify my fuel tank for a sump, relocate the battery to the trunk, build a roll cage, detail the heck out of the car and give it a nice eye catching paint job so it looks nice at the track. In the end I'll probably end up spending $20k to get the car just the way I want it.... and then I'm going to install $30 lowering blocks on the rear suspension using some new U-bolts on one side and some old rusty ones on the other side... instead of spending the couple hundred dollars to buy the correctly rated springs."

The gas tank. With the heat generated from the pipes and being right under the tank it has all the makings for disaster.

Too close together Dave. The pipes look a little too close together. They either need to be brought in like the Shelby and valanced or spread out further as would normally be. You know, beside the gas tank instead of under it. (It would keep dripping gas from igniting also which could result in the car exploding. Especially in a rear end collision for which we know these cars aren't built for. Forget the fact that trying to exit said car with a flaming gas tank could result in the spear-o-matic steering column going through your chest or possible decapitation from the slasher style dash pad.) Did I mention the pipes are too close together for my taste?
 
Running under the tank is not really any worse than beside it. Driving with a leaking tank will blow fuel all over the area. I think the view from the back is odd being able to see the pipes running under the tank like that. The closeness of them is simply getting used to a change. We are all used to seeing the pipes in a pretty set location and different is just that...different. I do prefer them a little farther apart. I do like the angle of the tips. If they were cut at the normal 45* then the opening would be close to parallel with the ground.

Just looking at different options for exhaust tips and one comes across all kinds of things.
 
Oh yea, it works....so does the normal reply with no mention of the smart a** responses prior to it. :lol :lol
 
Much more fun when done face to face to see the blank look in the other persons face as they try to figure out why their comment gained no response.
 
I had the exit from the muffler bent in an "S" and the tips exit just in front of the rear tires. It did change the pitch a bit, but it doesn't seem to have affected the performance any....At least seat of the pants. I would post a pic, but I am in Casper and won't be home until the end of September.

Eventually I will cut the mufflers off and run glass packs at an angle like the 65 GT350 had from Shelby or get two mufflers that have the entrance and exit on the same end and run a 90 turn and then out the side in front of the rear tires.

The only thing I don't like is the tips get hammered from road debris. I have lots of pits in my chrome tips. time to try some textured powder coat like SWMBO's Excursion has.

I'm a little slow to pick up on the sarcasm around here sometimes, but comments about gas/fuel coming into contact with the exhaust pipes resulting in a fire are preposterous. You could pour gallons of fuel on those exhaust pipes and it would do nothing but drip off of them.
