Do you guys use bread as a tool?

Yeah, Bread...
I have even used donuts! I had to remove the pilot bushing in the 383's crank today. I machined an old wheel stud the size of the ID of the bushing, packed bread in there and popped it right out.

It works well and is much cleaner than packing it full of grease!
yes, I have found that grease can actually trap air (which will compress) and the bread lets the air escape but will not compress. I have even used a donut before (no kidding)

Yes I learned this trick when I first was working on cars. Didn't believe my friends dad. He also bet me 20 bucks to take a bite of the bread after we got it out. I was young but not stupid.

I have a screw-in tool with a grease fitting. With an air-powered grease gun it takes about 60 seconds to screw the extractor in, hit it with the gun, and have a bushing in my hand. If wiping some grease out of the back of the crank was the worst thing I had to clean up it was a seriously easy day. No beating, banging, yanking, or bits of mess around. One of the best $10 I ever spent. I wish I had more chances to use it it works so well.
